Kevin Fowler Is Happy With Where He Is In His Career
- Lost Highway Records has put together a page of videos to introduce people to Ryan Bingham and his band. Other videos show some behind the scenes stuff about how the upcoming album Mescalito was made, and depict what life is like on the road for the guys.
- In a Q&A with LoneStarMusic Kevin Fowler says he doesn’t care if he never makes it big, he’s enjoying doing what he does now.
But if it stays right where it is, and we just keep doin’ this for the next 10, 15 years, I’ll be totally happy. I mean, we have more work than we can do. My band is makin’ a livin’ playin’. I’m making a living playin’. I’m writin’ songs that I enjoy to play. I’m getting to play live, which is the reason I got into this to start out with. We haven’t fallen under 150 shows a year since probably ‘99, ‘98, so I’m doin’ exactly what I want to do. If it blows up, that’s just more icing on the cake. The cake is already fulfilling.
- MySpace: Listen to the newest single from Shooter Jennings, “Walk of Life”.
- Coming in at No. 7 on Forbes magazine’s annual list of top earning musicians is Tim McGraw.
- It’s rare to come across a Billy Joe Shaver article that doesn’t tread on previous iterations, but Andrew Dansby delivers with some unique stories and quotes from other notable friends.
Shaver tormented Jennings almost as much as he respected him. “He was a mess, man,” Shaver says. “He made it real easy.”
Jennings wasn’t without his moments, though. Shaver recalls a venue owner stiffing them at gunpoint. As they drove away, part of the venue blew up.
“Did you see that?” Shaver asked.
“I didn’t see a thing, hoss,” Jennings responded. Later Jennings revealed his stash of dynamite under the floorboard.
- Prefacing the release of his new album Steve Earle has been cropping up in a lot of places recently. PopMatters talked with the man and reports on the changes that they have found. As expected he discusses politics, but also his marriage, moving to New York City, and his new method for recording Washington Square Serenade.
- New Trace Adkins CD is scheduled for December 4th.
- LATimes.com gives Kenny Chesney two-and-a-half out of four stars for Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates.
The album title raises the question of just who Kenny Chesney is: He’s never going to be confused with Johnny Cash or Merle Haggard. But in the reflective, occasionally self-pitying mode he’s in much of the time here, there are welcome signs he’s also not going to settle for the Margaritaville side of Jimmy Buffettland he had been slip-sliding into lately.
- At the age of 76 Willie Nelson’s older sister, Bobbie, will be releasing her first solo album tomorrow. The album, titled Audiobiography, is a collection of songs that connect Bobbie to a certain time period and in turn tell the story of her life. Willie has been urging her to record an album for years and you can feel the immense amount of admiration and love that Bobbie feels for her younger brother by the way she talks about him.
- Hoyt Axton and his mother, Mae Boren Axton, guitarist Tommy Crook, country music star Cal Smith and the late Sammi Smith are among the six inductees for the 2007 Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.
- Listen: Check out NPR to listen to four chosen tracks from Emmylou Harris‘ box set, Songbird. They’re all great, but I especially enjoyed “Boy From Tupelo”.
- An almost spooky music video for “Get Thee Behind Me Satan” featuring John Andersn from Billy Joe Shaver’s album, Everybody’s Brother.

very cool Billy Joe stuff. I saw him play in LA on Friday (Tanya Tucker made a surprise appearance and he told the story of their first meeting, it was pretty awesome), and if anyone gets the chance to go see him, do yourself a favor and go, he’s awesome.

I read an article about the Tanya Tucker appearance this morning, and I second the “awesome” comment.
Dave – I think it’s a great video too, very well directed, but it still gives me the heebie jeebies; mainly the snake.

Billy Joe is in Denver tomorrow, and I am going to drive into the city to see him. I’m excited. His shows are always so good.
Can’t wait to get a copy of Sister Bobbie’s cd today. I love working upstairs from a record store.

I wouldn’t give Kenny the overrated one 21/2 stars. My wish is for the overrated, overexposed and undertalented marketing gru to retire to is island asap.

Somebody let one of those rabid Tim McGraw fanatics out of their cages. This one seems content with feasting upon The 9513.
