This is one of the few songs from Kenny Chesney I actually like. I’ve had quite enough of the “sitting around on the beach because I don’t feel like acting like a grown-up today” songs. And people are encouraging Taylor Swift to grow out of her teen-ness? She IS 18. Kenny Chesney seems to think he is too, but let’s face it, the man is 40.

So this is a refreshing burst of maturity. And I don’t think it’s rambling or “a parody of dementia.” The line about taking a nap when you’re six and you wake up and you’re twenty-five? Is not supposed to be taken literally. Obviously.

And yes, the subject has been done to death, but what subject hasn’t? After all, the human race has been writing songs and poetry for a long time. It’s the WAY you say it that counts. And this song says it poignantly and beautifully, IMHO. (And I do concede that whether this song touches you or not is probably a subjective thing.)

If not wasting time is moral of the story, then everyone should switch off their mainstream country radio station. Life is too short to be spent listening to bad songs like this one.

Its funny how easily you can tell when someone has thought too hard about a song and completely missed the message of it. I’m just saying you earned the thumbs down.

And these songs act like they are dispensing sage advice, but they are really dispensing the most trite of cliches. Even Ferris Bueller knew that “life moves fast.”

Oh, that’s what that song means! I’m far too stupid to have figured that out by now, so it’s nice to finally know. Now if only I could learn to feed myself and tie my shoes.

There’s an old-man-dispenses-sage-advice song on the new Montgomery Gentry album too. Those plus “Believe” makes it a trend.

i agree, stop bashing Kenny! if you actually take the time to listen to the lyrics, then you can see that he meens life goes by too fast, so dont take it for granted. he’s trying to express to everyone how life goes by fast, so stop trashing him and deal with it!

Hairandtoenails…. You miss the point everytime. You INTENTIONALLY miss the point to strike up a debate. If you dislike kenny or dislike the song, fine. You have gotten away from what is important and this is wasting time.

First off, Kenny Chesney is so freaking hott, and isn’t old. But back to the conversation. People take lyrics way over the top when TRYING to analyze them. He isn’t literally saying when you are 6, you wake up and you’re 25. I mean, to me, what he’s actually trying to say makes so much sense. One day you are 6, then time just flies by, and you don’t know whats happened with your life. Kenny Chesney rocks every song he writes and sings! He is my hero, and I “Never Wanted Nothing More”!! :D
