Kelly Willis Spills The Beans To Lone Star Music About Her New Album, Kids, And Husband Bruce Robison
- This weekend, June 8-10, New Braunfels, TX is hosting two killer music festivals. The first is the Radio Free Texas Rowdy Float Trip featuring Adam Hood, Billy Joe Shaver, Brandon Rhyder, Walt Wilkins, and many more. The other is the Randy Rogers Band For the Sake of the Song Festival featuring Randy Rogers Band, Bruce Robison, Wade Bowen, and Brandon Rhyder and will also have a songwriting clinic.
- Richard Skanse sat down with Kelly Willis to do a rather lengthy interview, but her personality really shines in her responses. They cover a lot of material pertaining to her upcoming album and what it’s like recording music and being a mom at the same time. she also explains why her and husband Bruce Robison don’t write together and how she always steals the musicians from his band to be in her band.
- Toby Keith plans on releasing a 2-disc Christmas album of existing holiday classics later this year. One disc has ten songs he describes as Santa Claus songs and the other disc has ten religious themed songs.
Keith says that he took a slightly different musical course on the album, too. “I cut it mainly with acoustic instruments,” he says. “I called it the bluegrass band — dobro, fiddle, mandolin, piano, acoustic bass and brushes on the drums. That became a new part of me. I like to hear myself working in that atmosphere and that environment.”

I’ve heard you’ve given up the excesses of your younger days.
You can’t do cocaine no more. You can’t drink anything except water. If you do you’ll pay a heavy debt for it. It’s a matter of fact.
I never got that far into it [cocaine]. I did it for five months one time I got into a feel-sorry-for-myself kind of attitude, divorced a woman and all that, and I dabbled in that stuff for the year of ‘83 for about five months. When I got shut of it, I was through with it and I never had to worry about that kind of thing again.
Haggard also answers what it was like to lose Johnny Cash and all the other artists who have inspired him over the years.
