Katie...I don't think Keith wants Kenny's EOTY awards. He wants his own and already has one. But hey, that's what it's all about..don't you think? Keith isn't the only artist on that bandwagon that you say is Kenny's. Everybody wants recognition for their hard work. You may not think so, but Keith is a very talented artist and deserves to be awarded his efforts. Keith and Kenny are 2 different kinds of artist. I believe if Keith had been a good ole boy from Tennessee and not from Australia, he would have had far more recognition than he has had. Keith has way more talents than Kenny could only hope to have...in my opinion. Kenny is the party harty host and Keith is all about the music. Oh yeah, only one of those artist will be with Keith at each concert. Kenny brings all of Music Row with him for one show...that's why he fills stadiums.

I think Keith is trying to jump on the Kenny Chesney band wagon, and get the ETOY awards Kenny has.

Stormy:

I see what you are saying, but we need to be careful of what we consider "flawed", as there are certainly many levels of how "flawed" one can be. I am still a relatively new parent. I love sports, and was personally really bummed when all the bad news on Roger Clemens came out (I idolized him growing up). I almost fear the day that I have to explain to my son why its not such a great idea to "look up" to sports and music figures when someone he likes screws up in the public eye. I dont really want my son idolizing someone simply for "talent", especially if they are trainwrecks in the areas outside of their realm of expertise. Even I would feel much better about them looking up to Swift, as it is safe (or so it seems). Remember, with kids, talent and taste are different than with adults. I cant believe I used to rock out to Milli Vanilli, but you couldnt tell me that they werent truly talented when I was in the 8th grade. It may be a bit unrealistic for you to suggest that kids should put more emphasis on "talent" rather than whats "cool", or "safe"...

Thanks guys for the answer!! Guess I should have read the whole article. Not surprised he was fired! He was not that good of a DJ...IMO. He is funny at times, but not a whole morning show worth!

Stormy,

It's very difficult for me to be a devil's advocate for Taylor Swift but why not substitute Britney Spears for Amy Winehouse then your talented, but flawed argument changes to just plain flawed. And since I don't believe that Swift is talentless (can write, can't sing), we end up with cypher vs flawed. By the way, a cypher in this context is either a "a quantity of no importance" or "a person of no influence"...I don't see where either applies to TS.

Speaking of Saturday night...you can watch Dierks Bentley on the Marty Stuart Show on RFD-TV. Unfortunately on Monday they are taping two shows...one with John Rich and the other with Gretchen Wilson. Those two shows will be on tv in February.

Forgive the interjection, cause I read this blog, but have posted only once, but is not responsible behavior a draw? No, I am not particularly enamored of Taylor Swift's vocal abilities, nor in general her music, but she seems to be a terrific kid and a good role model for her age group. Well, for that matter ,if she is as integral as she appears, for any age group. I remember the first time I heard Amy Winehouse. I was blown away by her voice. But, I would not for the world want my nieces hangin' with her or emulating her. She is tragic to understate it. Taylor Swift on the other hand...... Young ones listen to the radio and buy, buy, buy. Me? I am grateful for ITunes. And, if I don't like what I hear on the radio, I stick my IPod in.
Talentless cypher? Does she not write her own stuff? I know ya'll bemoan the constant radio play. But, truth to tell, this blog is an example of another way of getting recognized. I am new to this genre (used to listen only to political talk and sports talk radio-I do not watch commercial television as a rule-mostly football-Git er dun Ravens!- and college basketball and movies). Started to get interested after having to watch Can You Duet. Then started checking out some of the music blogs. This is the best one I have found. I check out the postings here regularly. In fact, have listened to and purchased various tunes due to some of the reviews I have read here. For instance, I have Aston Shepherd's compilation on my IPOD and cannot get over how interesting her voice is. Her phrasing is choice. Thank you.
Taylor Swift does not get a lot of play on the radio station that I listen to. But, I have to admit, it will be interesting to see what she does as she matures.

Northtexas: We are having this discussion on another board too:

If you have girls idolize someone who is a talentless cypher instead of someone who is talented, but flawed, aren't you just teaching them that thoughtless conformity is more important than developing a skill or talent?
