Josh Turner – “Why Don’t We Just Dance”
Josh Turner is blessed with one of those rich voices that can sing just about anything and make it sound great (“Trailerhood” being the exception that proves the rule). In the past four years, he’s chalked up six consecutive top 20 singles, and his newest, from upcoming album Haywire (scheduled to drop in November), looks like it will continue his streak.
Remember Neal McCoy’s 1995 smash “They’re Playin’ Our Song?” “Why Don’t We Just Dance” is its more energetic cousin. Here, Turner is simultaneously playful and earnest in a manner that’s reminiscent of his cover of “One Woman Man” and his fastest rising single to date, “Firecracker,” as he asks his woman to turn off the television and start cutting a rug with him.
With a boisterous barroom piano and fiddle arrangement, “Why Don’t We Just Dance” is catchy enough to inspire a listener or two to boogie on down to the tune of Turner’s cajoling: “This little bitty living room ain’t gonna look like much/But when the lights go down and we move the couch it’s gonna be more than enough/For my two left feet and our two hearts beating/Nobody’s gonna see us go crazy/So, baby, why don’t we just dance.” It’s three minutes of escapist fun, and Turner’s charming performance on the track is further proof that he’s one of country music’s most talented young A-listers; this may not be the greatest vocal turn of his career but it’s still a pleasure to listen to.

I like this song, but I think that Josh’s vocal is almost too serious on a song that warrants a looser rendering, since the lyrics are pretty light. I think that’s Josh’s problem much of the time with the exception of “Lorretta Lynn’s Lincoln” where he deliciously lets loose.

I have no idea how anyone could think Josh is too serious on this song. He is very playful and I absolutely love this song. I can’t wait to hear the whole album. Josh hasn’t disappointed me yet.

Love this song and Josh sings it perfectly! Makes me want to get up and dance every time I hear it!

I love this song. With Josh’s voice and the way he sings it, I expect a hit for Josh. I,for one, stop what I’m doing and “just dance” every time I hear it. We’ve waited a long time for a new single, but this song is worth the wait. I’m very eager to hear the rest of the new album. I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.

I always get a kick out of the gushing from each artist’s personal flock of crazed fangurls/fanboyz that show up when their fave’s are mentioned here. Its just all so “ginchy”! (lol)
Josh is like the Nashville country music equivalent of Diogenes. Rather than looking for one honest man Josh is always searching for a great country song, and both of them seem to have had about the same luck…

Josh Turner’s new song is great! I just saw him perform it live and it was easy to see that it will be a hit for Josh. I’ve also seen one of the co-writers (Jonathan Singleton) perform and it was even better.

Well he’s still one of the best concerts i’ve ever seen and when i saw him he was only opening for Carrie Underwood and she was nothing compared to him live. Thats why halfway through the third song we got up and left.

“Why Don’t We Just Dance” is one of the most genuinely country songs I’ve heard in quite some time, and I always love hearing songs about dancing. They make me want to do just that – DANCE! I’m not surprised that this song became Turner’s biggest hit to date.
