God's Gonna Cut You Down

Justin Timberlake of all people is being credited as the video-treatment writer for the new video for Johnny Cash’s song, “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”.

Chalk it up to me being a simpleton, but I don’t really get the reason they used so many celebrities, or any celebrities at all, for this video. The impression given from reading the article on VH1 is that they were trying to commercialize the video as much as possible. It makes one wonder if anyone participating (save Kris Kristofferson) actually realizes what the lyrics are saying or belives in the message that is being taught, or whether they wanted to be in the video for publicity. Like one of the commenters on YouTube says, the video would have been more effective had actual “poor” and “downtrodden” people been used.
