John Rich Marries Longtime Girlfriend, Former Model Joan Bush
- John Rich married Joan Bush, his girlfriend for more than five years and a former model, on Saturday at a small ceremony in Nashville.
- Among the guests who payed tribute to George Jones at the Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday night were President Bush and First lady Laura Bush along with musical performances by Brad Paisley, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson and Garth Brooks. Jones was praised as a performer of uncommon cultural relevance.
“I appreciate the honor, don’t get me wrong,” said Jones, 77, sitting in a favorite chair in his Williamson County home. “But I feel kind of out of place. It seems like there’s a lot of people that would deserve it more than I do. I messed up my life way back there, drinking and boozing and all that kind of stuff, and you wish you could just erase it all. You can’t do that, though. You just have to live it down the best you can.”
- Clint Black has big shoes to fill as he follows Trace Adkins‘ run on Celebrity Apprentice. The new season starts March 1.
- Bulletproof, the newest album from Reckless Kelly, edged out the Driver-By Truckers‘ Brighter Than Creation’s Dark for the readers’ choice top album of that year at Twangville. See the rest of the top ten.
- Watch Trailer Choir’s Big Vinny showcase his dance moves and answer the question that’s on everybodys’ mind (exactly how many pairs of overalls does he own?) in episode 17 of Nashville at Nite.
- Appetite for Destruction’s Peter Kohan ponders whether or not, in this age of “drink responsibly,” there is a conflict in the message that Miller Lite is sending through their sponsorship and use of Luke Bryan’s song “All My Friends Say”?
- Twang Nation’s Baron Lane got his first taste of Berkley, California via a Tom Russell concert on Saturday night:
San Antonio’s Michael Martin provided intricately dazzling guitar and mandolin workto counter the hard tales Russell sang of illegal Mexican workers (Who’s Gonna Build Your Wall?) grappling with mortality (The Pugilist at 59) and the pain of love (Down the Rio Grande and Navajo Rug.) Many of the songs are autobiographical and the gritty roads and and tequila soaked rendezvous are all palpable. If Willie Nelson is Texas’ Django Reinhardt then Russell is the states’ adopted Jack Kerouac.
- Mary Chapin Carpenter on her new Christmas album, Come Darkness, Come Light, to CMT’s Craig Shelburne:
“That was the whole point from the beginning — to make a real acoustic record. Whatever instruments we thought might add a texture or color, John [Jennings -- co-producer] was able to provide himself. We brought in Jon Carroll, my longtime keyboard player. He is so gifted, and he really did the heavy lifting on the piano, but John was able to fill in where it was needed. At most, there were three people in the room, but mostly it was me and John. It’s really fun to do that. You feel like you’re wacky scientists, late at night in the lab, experimenting to your heart’s content.
- In this week’s “Quotable Country,” Country California’s C.M. Wilcox highlights quotes from Lady Antebellums‘ Charles Kelley in which he reveals Dave Haywood’s fascination with the Jonas Brothers and Bill Richardson describing dinner with Toby Keith.
- Bruce Robison has a particular affinity for the Christmas shows that he does each year since they’re one of the few opportunities he has to share the stage with his wife Kelly Willis. The material for the shows is fairly broad, and for good reason. Robison tells The Houston Chronicle’s Andre Dansby that “for a while, Cheech explaining Christmas to Chong, to me, denoted Christmas.”
- The HearYa indie music blog wants to introduce you to Those Darlins: “Their sound channels the traditional country sound you’d expect to hear at The Grand Ole Opry, but as dig you into the lyrics you’ll feel a punk attitude to go along with it.” (MySpace)

Step away from the river and up to a jukebox, because heartbreak is only temporary, but a good song about drowning yourself—like a diamond—lasts forever.

I did not know that John Rich was in a relationship. I guess that I always kind of suspected that he and Gretchen Wilson were “friends with benefits.”

Think again. Gretch isn’t like that. she’s got a big mouth and all, but that’s not true and frankly, its almost insulting.
good luck Rich!

Wow Davey, that response was part tween fangirl, part jilted lover. What’s up with that? :)

I’ll have to say that I’m surprised by the John Rich news too, for several reasons.

10 to 1 John Rich writes this woman a love song called ‘Get ‘joan bush, I’ve already got mine’ …

What? Marc, where did you get that impression? I was countering Matt C’s comments about Gretchen Wilson. I’m a big fan and didn’t appricate his comment. It was insulting to her character.
Second, the tween fangirl part isn’t that far from the truth. I’m not a tween, (I’m 19). Davey is a nickname, I’m actually a girl. My full name in Davidia (Pronounced dave-ee-dia. and don’t ask; you can’t pick your parents or help what they name you).

and very funny, JR. Hopefully John’s puns aren’t that bad.

If the Secret Service was protecting John Rich and his new wife, I have a feeling their code names would be “Rock Husdon” and “Doris Day” if you get my drift….
The fact Trace Adkins has a real edge to his personality made him intriguing on “Celebrity Apprentice” while Clint Black just seems like a really boring nice guy in comparison. They should have picked Kellie Pickler, Sarah Buxton, or Emily West to liven things up a little. Best yet would be Jamey Johnson as his tolerance for B.S. seems to be less than zero these days…..
Forget Big Vinny, I’d much rather see Crystal doing some dance moves a la Honky Tonk Badonkadonk… (Gosh, will Stormy find me as sexist as Trace Adkins? Hmmm….)

The bluegrass version of Old Enough by this rock group with guests Ricky Skaggs and Ashley Monroe is one of the most stunning things I have heard recently. You can view the video on CMT or YouTube. It is unbelievable. Don’t know why this website hasn’t reviewed it.

well, wayne they have showed the video and mentioned it more than once in previous blog/news round-ups…

Davey: Thanks for the update. I know I personally don’t have time to sit outside Gretchen’s bedroom and monitor her sex life, so its nice to hear from someone who does!
