I hate to update an old blog, but I’d like to settle the George Strait height thing. I seen him in Memphis around 4-5 years ago. I had front row seats on the floor (The luckiest I’ve ever been.) and it was an exceptional show. I’d say George is around 5′7 and not anywhere near the 5′10 many biographies say.

I read about the Bon Jovi album a while ago. It kinda pisses me off because I feel like they’re just pandering to country music fans to line their pockets. I think it’s demeaning to the genre and more deserving artists.

I am, however, interested in Jewel’s album because of the precise reasons you mentioned, Matt, or perhaps it’s just my double standards.

I think most people saw both the Jewel and Bon Jovi albums coming. I’m actually looking forward to hearing Jewel’s effort; she’s experimented stylistically throughout her career and her influences are more country than some of the artists of the radio today (like Kenny Chesney, who carries on in interviews about how much he idolizes Van Halen).

I think the Bon Jovi album will be a commercial success but an artistic disaster. I can’t stand “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” and I really don’t see them improving on that surprise number one. I’m hoping that, given their impressive musical credentials, they can surprise me.
