Jessica Simpson Aspires To Be Like Pasty Cline.

  • Here’s the second part to the Kris Kristofferson interview that Chet Flippo posted yesterday. Kristofferson talks about a few of his songs and where he got the inspiration to write them.

I think you cut “Moment of Forever” in the early ’90s on an album, and it’s coming up again. Willie has cut that, hasn’t he?

Willie nailed “Moment of Forever.” The funny thing is, I pitched him that song back when I wrote it. We were on one of those live songwriter things in Austin on TV, and I sang the song for him. Willie acted like I was singing the love song to him, and he said, “I don’t know, Kris. I’m not ready for that.” It turned into a big joke, and I knew he would sing it great because he’s got the perfect voice for it. It’s just like an archetype. I knew that either he or Julio [Iglesias] or one of those guys should sing it, and sure enough, he sang it, just destroyed me. I hope he puts it out as a single or something.

  • During the 55th annual Country Awards on Nov. 6 in Nashville, BMI will bestow its icon designation on Willie Nelson for his “unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.” The award spans all genres of music, but previous country winners include: Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Whisperin’ Bill Anderson, Charlie Daniels, and Loretta Lynn.
  • Tom Roland wrote an article on the CMT blog about Willie and Waylon requesting to be removed from the award nomination ballot for the CMA Awards show. The incident happened this week 30 years ago, and most likely unintentional, it “helped to solidify their standing as Outlaws.”
  • Jessica Simpson credits Willie Nelson for helping her with her acting and then lets out this doozy:

“I’ve been wanting to do a country record because it’s just my roots; it’s my soul. I aspire to be like Patsy Cline. Willie actually turned me on to her because he used to be one of her background singers.”

  • This coming Monday Trisha Yearwood will digitally release her newest single, “Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love”, to radio.
  • Mario Villanueva asks the question: “Can you believe after all these years that Hank Williams Sr. has still not been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry?”
  • And lastly, John Goodspeed poses his own question to Charlie Robison after his tour with Kevin Fowler to entertain troops in Kuwait and Iraq. Goodspeed says, “I finally stumbled upon a question that the upfront Charlie Robison was ashamed to answer.” Follow the link to see what the question was and how Robison answered.

Hank Williams was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. However, he was not a member at the time of his death. I’m kind of sick of this petition for Hank’s “reinstatement” because I think that the organizers misunderstand the Opry. The deceased are not Opry members. They are former Opry members, which is exactly what Hank Williams is. Reinstatement of Hank is not possible.

People think being an Opry member is like the Hall of Fame member, but it’s not. Being an Opry member is a job — and Hank can’t get to work anymore.

The title of this post made me laugh and laugh…..

Willie and Waylon requesting to be removed from the CMA award nomination ballot? Why that’s downright punk rock of them!

jessica simpson says willie nelson was one of patsy cline’s backup singers? no, he wasn’t. that’s simply not true. she recorded ‘crazy’. that’s pretty much it; he never sang backup for her.

maybe she misunderstood willie or something. or maybe she’s stupid. who knew? :)
