Jamie Foxx Tests Country Music Waters On New Rascal Flatts Album
- While searching for a location to shoot their new video, Randy Kohrs and his crew stumbled upon the perfect abandoned house with a for sale sign. Filming went smoothly… until it was time to leave:
Leaving the place actually cleaner than when they arrived, the band members began to drive off of the property, a mere five minutes behind the film crew. Just as the first car nearly turned onto the main road, two law-enforcement vehicles blocked them in. Hearts pounded as “fearless leader” Randy Kohrs got out of his vehicle and tried his best to explain the situation, handing over his own information to one officer as the other took a look around the property. Several other law enforcement vehicles could be seen surrounding the property, waiting to blaze in at a moment’s notice. After more than ten minutes of innocently pleading his case, Kohrs convinced them it was for the sake of a Gospel video, handed them both a copy of Old Photograph, assuring them it was not a bribe, he and the rest of the band were allowed to leave, and a huge sigh of relief was breathed by all.
- Free music: Little Big Town will be offering up their newest single, “I’m With the Band”, for free on their website starting tonight at 12am and running for 24 hours.
- Here’s a little gem of information about Dale Watson:
But just as his popularity seemed on the upswing, tragedy struck: Watson’s fiancée, Terri Herbert, died in a car accident, and he spiraled into drugs and booze, almost dying of an overdose before checking himself in for treatment, a real-life version of a country tragedy. Crazy Again, a documentary released last year, traces Watson’s breakdown.
- The former police officer who is currently suing John Michael Montgomery for what he calls false allegations has filed another suit against the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government for violating his rights.
- Bill Anderson wrote his first hit for Ray Price 50 years ago on August 27, 1957 and has been churning them out ever since. In honor of the milestone Tom Roland wrote a post on the CMT Blog celebrating some of his favorite Anderson penned songs. Check it out, you might be surprised to find that he’s written recent hits for George Strait, Kenny Chesney, and Brad Paisley.
- Jason Aldean and his wife birthed their second daughter, Kendyl, this past Monday.
- Rob Trucks did a good job of capturing some Billy Joe Shaver charm in his article for the Houston Press.
“I know I’m not that smart a person,” he says. “But I have a real good corner on simplicity. I don’t believe it needs to be greased at all. If you can write something in as few words as possible and make it mean as much as you can, and make it only mean one thing, no double Dylan or anything like that, that is hard to do.
“And I do that. I’m good at it.”
- If you’ve been trying to get your kids interested in more traditional music, check out the newest release from Ronnie McCoury, the son of Del McCoury. Little Mo’ McCoury includes some original tracks along with reinterpretations of Earl Scruggs, Bob Dylan, and the Toy Story theme “You’ve Got a Friend In Me”.
- Josh Turner will be releasing a yet to be titled album on October 30th. The first single, “Firecracker”, is already the fastest rising of his career.
- Just when I thought “this is the best album I/we have ever made” was getting a little played out, Rascal Flatts went and used it to describe their new album. Still Feels Good will also sport a duet with Jamie Foxx on “She Goes All the Way”.
While recording at Nashville’s Blackbird Studios, Jamie challenged the members of Rascal Flatts to a basketball competition, with $20 on the line for each basket. Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus learned pretty quickly they had no chance against Jamie, but Joe Don Rooney was a little more stubborn. He ended up losing all the money he had on him that day to Jamie.
Basketball story aside, is this Jamie Foxx’s foray into possibly creating his own country album? Maybe playing Ray Charles rubbed off a little on his real life ambitions.

Free Music Downloads: If you’ve only recently come to country music, or have never delved past the genre’s surface and it’s most famous names, you may not have heard of Tom Russell. That’s a shame, and The 9513’s Free Music series is here to help set you down the right path.
Martina McBride - “Ride” Catchy, but a little low on cogency–not to mention originality. And it essentially resolves into the same kind of positive “message song” that has defined so much of McBride’s recent work.
Richie McDonald - “How Do I Just Stop” So gloriously simple and unequivocally lackluster that people of every political persuasion should rejoice in the opportunity to come together and have a hearty laugh at its expense.
Donnie Vondra - “If I Didn’t Love You” Combinining a golden trifecta of country music—steel guitar, fiddle and a strong, twangy vocal—"If I Didn't Love You" pulls together a sweet, toe-tapping ditty reminiscent of Marty Raybon-era Shenandoah.
Lance Miller - “Bacon Frying” A charming country song that is beautiful for its simplicity, a musical remnant from a time when songwriters understood that often the best thing to do is just get out of the song’s way.
John Rich - “Another You” For a guy who is supposed to be a genius songwriter, John Rich sure does seem to be running out of ideas.
George Ducas - “Walk Through This World” Ducas banks on the success of recent artists’ pleasantly bland lyrics and agreeable instrumentation for his first release with WhiteStar Nashville.
