Jamey Johnson Debuts Video for “In Color”
- Checkout the brand spankin’ new video for Jamey Johnson’s “In Color.” Sound off in the comments, does the video live up to the song?
- Kenny Chesney isn’t a big fan of the new fan-voted Entertainer of the Year award, however he still remains respectful of the fans.
“The entertainer of the year award is the top award, and it represents work and sacrifice and commitment. And it should not be about what artist can push people’s buttons on the Internet. I think the Academy should really reconsider the way it does this award.”
Rascal Flatts‘ Gary LeVox, whose band offered a free download on their website for those who voted, feels differently:
“It’s about time,” that the fans get to vote, he said. “The reason the three of us have jobs is the fans. So I think it’s incredible. Hopefully, that continues.”
- Calvin Gilbert has a recap of the ACM New Artist Showcase, featuring all the new artist nominees minus The Wreckers, at the MGM Grand on Saturday night. He says Sarah Buxton provided the biggest surprise when she performed because she was backed by none other than Keith Urban and his band. If that’s not a ringing endorsement, I don’t know what is.
- Taylor Swift had this to say about her latest single, “Should’ve Said No,” that she played at the ACM Awards last night:
“I wrote this song by myself, and it literally took me just 20 minutes to write before we recorded it,” she says. “I was living every line in this song at the time. I wrote this song about a guy who cheated on me who shouldn’t have.”
- The controversy of cell phones at concerts continues. Artists are frustrated, they feel like cell phones are distractions, like people aren’t really there to listen to the music.
- Miranda Lambert joined PopMatters for an edition of 20 Questions. (via Twang Nation)
- One of the winners of the recent giveaway we did in honor of Willie Nelson’s 75th birthday is already getting good use out of his Willie braids. That’s one boy who’s gettin’ a proper raisin’.
- A poll released by AOL Television shows Carrie Underwood as the all-time most popular American Idol winner. She also partnered with Nintendo as one of three female celebrities promoting a new color of DS in their new commercials.
- The Lost Highway blogger Matt took a job with Roughstock as their new content editor. Congrats, Matt, I’ll be interested in seeing what you guys do with the site.
- NPR is featuring a past interview with Chris Gaffney and bandmate Dave Gonzales of the Hacienda Brothers.
- ESPN has a video interview with Dale Jr. and Dierks Bentley. Good stuff. (via Galleywinter)
- With his solo tour, Social Distortion’s lead singer Mike Ness says he’s “trying to bring the dirt back into country,” and add “a little bit of an edge to a music that’s become very homogenized.” He has studio time booked for early 2009 but hasn’t decided whether he’ll do a solo disc or a Social D disc. He said the band has been kicking around the idea of an all-acoustic disc as well.
- Free mp3: For the next four days Due West is making their song “Sweet Gravity” available for free download on their blog.
- Country Universe’s “100 Greatest Women” feature hit the halfway threshold last Friday with Jeannie C. Riley, and continued it’s downward trek to number one over the weekend with Olivia Newton-John and Lulu Belle.
- As we reported previously, Sugarland’s third album, Love on the Inside, is due to drop on July 22nd.
- Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley paying tribute to Eddy Arnold at the ACM Awards with a performance of “Make the World Go Away.”

Yes! I’m a big fan of Jamey Johnson’s new song and I enjoyed the video. The color flow is perfect. He’s coming to perform here next month with a variety of other artists, and while I appreciate his song writing ability more than his singing ability, I’m definitely excited to see him.

I just saw Johnson’s video this morning. It was on CMT in the background as I worked and it was the song that perked up my ears first. I looked up to see a life-worn man sitting on a stool and though I didn’t recognize him, his face made it seem he was worth listening to. Then the colors washing over him made me pay more attention to the words. Seems like close to perfect video presentation.
I want Willie braids! I didn’t win here, so where can I get them? I teach large university courses and I play many different kinds of music as students come in and leave. Willie is always on a few days out of semester and I want to wear Willie braids on my shaved head on the days when I play him!

I thought the “In Color” video was just okay. It’s a rather obvious trick and who’s going to want to watch the video more than once or twice rather than just listen to the song?

Shaun Silva (the lucky guy who married Shannon Brown) did a really nice job with that video. The wave of color effect was really cool. Jamey is a fine “real country” artist who obviously doesn’t target songs for radio and instead just writes the best songs he can. There were times when mainstream country radio appreciated such talent and traditional styles, but not so much these days. “In Color” is currently at the # 43 position on the Mediabase 24/7 country singles chart, so it will be interesting to see how well it does. Its not pop-y and rock-y and shallow, so its got a real uphill climb ahead at Top 40 country radio..
I wonder if a YouTube video will show up of Sarah Buxton and Keith Urban doing the duet on “Stupid Boy” at the fundraiser concert? I was hoping to see that during the ACM show……

I don’t want to sound stupid here, but wasn’t Jamey off a label for a while? But I’m totally diggin’ the ZZ Top look. I like his back to country’s roots Hank Jr.-ish style. Probably not the most commercially successful way to go, but a great way to go none the less! I’d say I’d buy the CD, but I need that money right now.
Who’s complaining about cell phones? If you’re good, people pay attention - if they think you’re awful, they don’t. Enough people sending that cell phone pic around is good viral marketing in my opinion. I don’t actually own a cell phone, I’m ridiculously behind the times, I know.
That little guy is definitely going to get real braids like that one day, I can just tell. The next Willie? Any predictions?

Love the tribute. The awesome thing about that song, automatic cheers during the first line no matter what. There’s still nobody that can get that cool Sinatra-esque sound to the voice though.

I like the Jamey Johnson video. I think it fits the song really well without being over the top. I hadn’t heard of Jamey until the song was reviewed on here and now the video made me even more interested in his music.

I would actually have liked to see a little more emotion out of Jamey in the video… it seems like even when the song reaches its peak, Jamey’s emotions are the same… theres no build-up.
Not a bad video though… pretty predictable, but it delivers.

Jamey Johnson is a great artist (FYI “That Lonesome Song” is off of iTunes and now the radio version for “In Color” is available to download).
