Jamey Johnson Celebrates Gold; Forthcoming Country Music Book Releases; Miranda Moves Billy Bob’s Crowd
- Jamey Johnson celebrated the success of The Guitar Song, which was certified Gold, on Friday.
- The Star-Telegram’s Preston Jones ranks Miranda Lambert‘s performance of “The House That Built Me” at Billy Bob’s Texas on Friday night as one of the most moving concert moments he’s experienced.
As she spoke about growing up in small-town Texas, tears began to glisten on her cheeks and she revealed that her grandmother passed away the night of the Grammys: the wonderful colliding with the terrible. She dedicated the song to her late grandmother and was visibly overwhelmed at times during its performance.

Miranda deserved to win the very first Nashville Star and her career since then is solid proof. I’m glad to see her doing so well these days.
The big news of the day is that this coming Saturday night will see the Grand Ole Opry debut of those country music icons The Doobie Brothers!!! (lol) I’ll definitely be tuned in to catch this strange bit of Opry history. I’m guessing it will be both their first and last Opry appearance. Kind of like Elvis but without the hip swinging and a lot more groovy jammin’…

Apparently these current traveling Doobies are about to have a run through various country and Americana venues and outlets. Well, they do have John Cowan fronting for the moment, and he’s a remarkable singer IMHO. Whether theres a more remarkable way to bring back ‘Whoa-whoo whoaaa” –I dunno.
Ex-frontman McDonald is sort of a pop fixture around Nashville, meanwhile.
Whoa-whoa whoa.

I dunno if fronting is really the right word for Cowan’s role, but I do know it’s not the first time he’s been out with the Doobies. I know a lot of people don’t like them, but I also know that a lot of country and bluegrass artists do, mostly for the singing.

Blake Shelton’s new song sounds promising;) I feel Blake is a little too worried about his image these days. I wonder if the Buble cover got him too much grief from some folks, and he had to swing back with nonsense like this.

“those country music icons The Doobie Brothers”…I daresay that “Black Water” was a damn sight more “country” than most of what’s on our the current country chart. Odd you wouldn’t have thought that, Rick and gotten your usual dig in at Airhead Country Radio ;)

Yeeeup. I know that in “Nashville Rash,” Dale Watson laments rock hits in the ’70s being country hits today; but as I was telling my wife the last time we heard the song, country sounding like certain subgenres of ’70s rock would actually be an improvement on modern mainstream country music.

For Blake’s latest, well, I guess it has its place. I don’t mind singers singing about being country, though it does seem to agitate some here. But even with that, each song should stand on its own.
