Introducing The 9513’s 1st Annual Country Music Awards
Between the CMAs, the ACMs, the Americana Music Association Awards, the International Bluegrass Music Association awards and the Folk Alliance Awards, there’s a lot of hardware being handed out to honor the best music from across the spectrum of musical styles which makes up what we here at The 9513 call country.
But none of the above bring all of those various styles together, under one big “country music” tent where they belong. That’s where we come in.
The CMAs and the ACMs are radio-based awards that honor only mainstream country, while the others exclude quality mainstream music and even quality traditional and neotraditional country.
We cover country music in all of its forms, so it only makes sense that we’ve designed awards that allow the best music from all corners of country to be honored side by side.
And the best part is that you get to help determine the winners.
Eligibility:
The 9513’s 1st Annual Country Music Awards recognizes the best country music released between Nov. 1, 2007, and Nov. 1, 2008, as nominated and unanimously agreed upon by our editorial staff.
- The eligibility period and the nomination methodology utilized here are different than those used to produce our Top Albums and Best Songs lists, which are meant as a broad representation of our staff’s top picks for the year. Because of this, nominees for “Best Album” (for example) may or may not overlap directly with those which appear on our year end list.
- Nominees are selected based on artistic merit, not commercial success or viability.
- Nominees may include artists and music classified as Country, Americana, Red Dirt, Bluegrass, Folk, or any other genre label, so long as that artist or music is unanimously deemed “country” by The 9513’s editorial staff.
Voting:
We’ve selected the nominees, but it’s your job to help us pick the winners. The 9513’s 1st Annual Country Music Awards is unique because voting is a partnership between our staff and readers.
- 50% of the final results will be based on public voting
- 50% of the final results will be based on The 9513 staff votes
- Readers who have left 50 or more comments within the eligibility period will have their votes mathematically weighted (i.e. their votes will have slightly more leverage when the final numbers are calculated).
- Voting is public—and we’ve even provided a form to send the voting page to your friends.
- You must use a valid email address to vote. You will be asked to confirm your ballot.
- You may only vote once. We’ve taken a number of measures to this end, and any votes which compromise the integrity of the awards will be dismissed.
- Voting is open from January 13 to January 27.

I know a fair amount of those choices, but in all honestly, I wish I knew them all, so I could truly give a fair vote to each category. For example, I didn’t get any bluegrass albums this year, and none of those, will I like what I heard from the Steel Drivers, so I chose them.
This is very cool.

Taylor cd didn’t come out in the right time anyway it was released November 11 2008.

Haha the Taylor Swift thing was a joke guys. One of my writers does seem to like her and there is always a story about her so its easy to cover here but I know how much everyone hates her here.
Ashton Shepherd will be getting my vote for best new artist closely followed by Joey + Rory.

Hmmm… the album and song categories were especially difficult for me. Song was especially unfair because 3 of my favorites were all nominees, so I had to pick, of course.

I think the editorial staff was torn over LAW and Call Me Crazy–I thought the record was great, but it wasn’t something we could all agree on.

What I liked about these nominees, as opposed to regular awards shows, is that there wasn’t always a clear choice of who I should vote for. I enjoyed having to think about it and having to really think about why I chose a particular nominee before voting. Refreshing!

I could definitely see that about Call Me Crazy Jim, although I loved it too. I think “Last Call” at least deserved some love as best song though. xD
I completely agree Leeann. Whereas in the CMA’s there’s a bunch of artists that don’t deserve the award and maybe one who does, this was much better to be able to pick.
