From the new album of Eric Church I have only heard of the song on the radio and I like it so this might be worth looking into

Commenting on the forthcoming Eric Church album, I loved his first album, for the grittiness. I was not thrilled with the first single from his next album, but have heard some other tracks live in concert. Hopefully this album holds up to his last one.

Leeann, it's hard to go wrong with any of them, but I'd go with The Bourbon Legend, then Pearl Snaps.

I just downloaded a Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Somewhere In the Middle, album for $6.99 on Amazon today, because I've been seeing his name a lot from 9513 people. I'm glad I did. Good stuff. How does it compare to his other albums?

Kelly, I know the whole "Red Dirt" concept has been discussed in detail here at The 9513 on previous occasions with no firm definitions ever reached or mutually agreed upon. I see the Red Dirt music scene as a Texas based subset of the larger Americana music scene, with Red Dirt reaching towards the Alt. Country/Roots Rock end of the spectrum, but that is just my perception.

I appreciate the fact that traditional sounding artists like Sunny Sweeney, Amber Digby, Kimberly Murray, and The Hot Club of Cowtown can thrive in the Texas music scene as it helps to keep these older country genres alive. When I read "Red Dirt" I just naturally think of bands like Cross Canadian Ragweed which to me are far more representative of the Red Dirt sound than say Aaron Watson.....(remember, I'm from Los Angeles )

Regarding Loretta Lynn: Loretta is getting up there in years and won't be around forever. That's one reason I am glad Amber Digby is carrying on the torch for that style of music.

For anyone interested, the Cash documentary came out on DVD about a year ago. It is not a documentary in the sense that it tells a story through narration, but it is more like a home movie where you see Cash in different situations like backstage (where he invites a guy in who wants to pitch him a song) to visiting his old Dyess home place (if you have watched the "Hurt" video closely you'll recognize this doc as the source for a few scenes).
