I Had Relations With Your Girl…Oops

In the Kansas City Star . . . it read, “Dayton thinks he’s the coolest guy in the room, but he’s really just a flaming poser.” Found out later the journalist had married a girl that I had “relations” with on the tour . . . ooops?
- Pat Green had to cancel a New Year’s Eve concert after undergoing emergency surgery for appendicitis.
- I had some trouble on Chet Flippo’s quiz “Test Your Country Knowledge II.” Damn those middle names.
- Warner Music Group became the third of the four major music corporations to drop DRM from their digital downloads, opting to use Amazon’s download service. Sony BMG Music Entertainment is the only corporation continuing to hold out.
Now, some music executives are privately backing the idea of dropping the software from music sold through virtually every service except iTunes, in order to strengthen Apple’s rivals and potentially diminish Mr. Jobs’s advantage. The major labels have been upset with Apple’s inflexibility on music pricing, among other issues.
- Episode 11 of the It Burns When I Pee podcast is available. It features band member Handsome Cash from the band Hank Cash and their record release party–which means songs from their self-titled album can be heard.
- Carlene Carter will release Stronger, her first album of all new material since 1995, early next year.
- Dwight Yoakam and Patty Griffin earned spots 24 and 23 and PopMatters Best Albums of 2007 list while Lyle Lovett came in at number six for It’s Not Big It’s Large and Miranda Lambert’s Crazy-Ex Girlfriend locked up number two.
- Hayes Carll apparently has a release date of April 8th for his new album.
- Toby Keith and his family won a $2.8 million lawsuit for the wrongful death of T.K. Covel–Keith’s father. Covel was traveling down the highway when he was bumped by another vehicle that sent him across the median where his truck was struck by an oncoming charter bus. The jury concluded that accident was “clearly avoidable” if the driver had been properly trained and if the bus had been equipped with proper brakes.

Don’t look now, but Darius Rucker, lead singer of 90s rock group Hootie & The Blowfish, has a country hit on his hands. What you probably haven’t heard is that Rucker is the first black artist to chart a single in the country top 20 since Charley Pride last did it in 1988.
News that former Sugarland member and co-founder Kristen Hall is suing her ex-mates, to the tune of $1.5 million, goes a long way towards providing a bit of context regarding the Atlanta singer/songwriter’s sudden departure from the group.

Being of a rightward bent I’m surprised that Keith was willing to pay one of those evil lawyers to file a lawsuit. I’m happy to see he doesn’t think all lawsuits are frivolous.

No, Toby’s a “Democrat.” He’s the sort of Democrat who’s only a Democrat so he can follow all of his right-wing statements with “…and I’m a Democrat!”
