- Referring to Joe Nichols’ new album Edward Morris asks, “So what is the ‘real thing’ when it comes to Joe Nichols? Is he the brooding, introspective soul conveyed in ‘The Impossible’ and ‘If Nobody Believed in You’ or the party animal implicit in ‘Tequila’ and ‘What’s a Guy Gotta Do’?”
“I don’t think they’re two different guys,” Nichols says without hesitation. “They’re just two different parts of the day.”

- The annual WSM Listener Appreciation Concert is always one of Nashville’s best bargains, with tickets to a full length show at the Ryman Auditorium sold for only $6.50. Last year’s show featured Hall of Famer Glen Campbell, and this year’s lineup, to be officially announced on Wednesday morning on WSM AM, is one of the best in recent memory: 2007 Hall of Fame inductees Vince Gill and Mel Tillis will perform a show hosted by Ralph Emery.
For the second consecutive year, the opening act for these legends will be chosen by open audition at Nashville’s famous Tootsies’ Orchid Lounge.
- In his song “What Would Willie Do”, Bruce Robison sings the line “he even made a hit country song with Julio Iglesias and that ain’t easy to do.” If that wasn’t challenging enough, the 74 year-old Willie Nelson has agreed to write tracks for Jessica Simpson’s pending country album.

- The bad reviews just keep pouring in for FOX’s reality show, Nashville. Brett Love informs us that the show placed fifth in its time slot–behind reruns of America’s Funniest Home Videos. Chet Flippo says, “What the show mainly proves is that a lot of know-nothing rednecks actually come from L.A.“

- There are no surprises among the first round of CMA Awards performers: Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and George Strait.
- Ryan White says, “Do not take your wife to a Keith Urban concert. It’ll be tempting, but don’t take your wife to the show.” That’s a pretty bold statement, but he makes a good argument to back it up.
- I hope no one out there has a relationship that’s unraveling, but if you do, Craig Shelburne recommends Lyle Lovett’s The Road to Ensenada.
“Private Conversation” reminds me of a movie with all kinds of love mismatches. And who can argue with a song titled, “It Ought to Be Easier”?

Free Music Downloads: If you’ve only recently come to country music, or have never delved past the genre’s surface and it’s most famous names, you may not have heard of Tom Russell. That’s a shame, and The 9513’s Free Music series is here to help set you down the right path.
Martina McBride - “Ride” Catchy, but a little low on cogency–not to mention originality. And it essentially resolves into the same kind of positive “message song” that has defined so much of McBride’s recent work.
Richie McDonald - “How Do I Just Stop” So gloriously simple and unequivocally lackluster that people of every political persuasion should rejoice in the opportunity to come together and have a hearty laugh at its expense.
Donnie Vondra - “If I Didn’t Love You” Combinining a golden trifecta of country music—steel guitar, fiddle and a strong, twangy vocal—"If I Didn't Love You" pulls together a sweet, toe-tapping ditty reminiscent of Marty Raybon-era Shenandoah.
Lance Miller - “Bacon Frying” A charming country song that is beautiful for its simplicity, a musical remnant from a time when songwriters understood that often the best thing to do is just get out of the song’s way.
John Rich - “Another You” For a guy who is supposed to be a genius songwriter, John Rich sure does seem to be running out of ideas.
George Ducas - “Walk Through This World” Ducas banks on the success of recent artists’ pleasantly bland lyrics and agreeable instrumentation for his first release with WhiteStar Nashville.

Well as sick as it was, I actually like the show “Nashville”. I am interested to see what happens next. Even though the “pretty boy” can’t sing, Nashville still welcomes him with open arms, proving beauty before talent, just like Hollywood does!!

Thanks for posting the link to the 20 Questions w/ Miranda Lambert, Brody. It was a great interview they had, and I would’ve hated to miss it. A lot of the Lambert interviews are really repetitive w/ the same old questions; but even I (a fan since the days of “Nashville Star) learned a few new things from that one.

When I do the news roundup it seems like everyone repeats the same stories and quotes from artists as well. Galleywinter is good about keeping things interesting in their “20 Questions” feature, but it only helps if you’re a fan of Texas music since they don’t cover anything else.
