Henson Cargill Passed Away, Blake Shelton Defends Reality Stars, And Wynonna Judd Files For Divorce

  • Album review for Jack Ingram’s This Is It:

“This Is It” only sounds calculated on its first single, an unnecessary cover of the rock band Hinder’s recent hit ballad, “Lips of an Angel.” Ingram imposes his gravelly twang onto the challenging vocal arrangement, but otherwise does little to make it his own. He also tacks on last year’s hits, “Wherever You Are” and “Love You,” since they originally came out on an album that featured mostly live tracks.

  • Henson Cargill passed away Saturday due to complications from surgery. The 66 year old singer was most known for his hit “Skip a Rope.”

A New York Times review in 1968 called the song “a little morality lesson within the context of a child’s skip-rope rhyme” and said Cargill “has one of those deliciously smooth country baritones like Johnny Cash’s or Dave Dudley’s.”

  • Jim Kiest from The San Antonio Express has a short review of Todd Snider’s Peace, Love and Anarchy.

This collection of “rarities, B-sides and demos” is a late-night snack, not a meal. Even after feasting on last year’s “The Devil You Know,” though, fans of the hard-living singer-songwriter probably will be happy for the scraps.

  • Blake Shelton says there’s no defined way of making it in Nashville while defending reality stars, “the thing you’ve got to remember is once you get that opportunity, however you get that opportunity, that’s when you’ve got to bring it.”
  • Another high profile country music divorce brought to you via Wynonna Judd. The country singer filed for divorce after finding out that her husband had been arrested on three counts of aggravated sexual battery against a child younger than 13. Yikes.
  • October Skies dubs today as Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day and proceeds to list a few of her favorites, definitely some good choices.

I only listened to the Ingram album once but I didn’t think that it was very good. I haven’t liked any of his pop-country singles and the songs seem even more bland and mainstream on his latest effort.

HelloCaitlinT – It sucks big time, but it sounds like she already has a handle on the situation and isn’t freaking out like a lot of other celebrities would.

Matt – I wasn’t very fond of the album, either. I did like Ava Adele and enjoy a lot of his older material, and I’ve heard that he’s awesome if you ever get to see him live.
