- Sleepy LaBeef is a rockabilly artist who got his start in the ’50s and recently released a stripped-down acoustic album, Roots. Steve Morse calls it “a tasteful, change-of-pace LaBeef album for fans who thought they had heard everything from him.” (Listen to select tracks on MySpace)

- Blake Sheton explains the direction of his new album in a Q&A with the Star-Telegram’s Preston Jones.
Your new album kind of leans in a pop direction, doesn’t it?
When you’re a country artist and you’re known as the “story-song guy” . . . you become a guy people appreciate for sticking to the roots of country music, and that’s something that I’ll always do. By the same token, country music has always evolved, and that’s why it’s stayed popular throughout the years. . . . I think I’ve found that balance of moving on and trying new things and still being Blake.
- And in Cindy Watts’ article for The Tennessean, he reflects on small-town life and Miranda Lambert.

- “The Dukes of Hazzard” earned Waylon Jennings the No. 34 spot on Josh Jackson’s list of “The 40 Best TV Theme Songs of All Time.” Rawhide and Bonanza scored mentions for Westerns, but Jerry Scoggins, backed by Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt, pulled in top honors as far country songs are concerned with the No. 16 spot for “The Ballad of Jed Clampett.”
- Fletcher Foster, senior VP/GM at Universal Records South, commented on the label’s decision to release a ballad as the debut single from Randy Houser.
“This stood out as a song of the year-type of song,” Foster said. “If we were going to lose, at least we’d have some respect doing it. And we would have made a statement about who he is as a vocalist and how he can deliver a song.”
- Sunny Sweeney catches fans up to speed with the past several months in her MySpace blog. She’s been touring with Randy Rogers Band and a lot of co-writing, not necessarily with Randy Rogers. Check out the lengthy list.

Thanks for the Sleepy Labeef update. Would love to see Three Girls and their Buddy. Buddy Miller is an amazing artist. Very much in high demand. I am somewhat surprised that Womack’s latest CD hasn’t hit the Americana charts (yet), it seems to fit well in this genre. We were begining to call her our Red Dirt girl, but I still believe Kristen Kelly (Modern Day Drifters) holds that title.

It was smart of Universal South to start off Randy Houser’s radio career with such a powerful song in order to bust open the gates. Now that Randy is on radio’s welcome list he can start feeding them the Brooks & Dunn and Trace Adkins soundalike songs that fill much of his “Anything Goes” album.
Its nice to hear that Sunny Sweeney is busy co-writing songs and I’m especially glad to see Ashley Monroe, Billy Yates, Adam and Shannon Wright, aand Angaleena Presley included in the list. I just hope Sunny’s Texas music sensibilities don’t get completely lost in Nashywood.
