Gretchen Wilson Cited For Disturbance During Recent Flight
- After reportedly becoming “verbally abusive” onboard a recent flight, Gretchen Wilson was stripped of her alcohol privileges and cited for a disturbance. The trouble apparently came about when the stewards asked her to keep her pet dog in its carrier case. How dare they.
- A special edition of the forthcoming Garth Brooks The Ultimate Hits will benefit breast cancer awareness. Ten dollars of every fifteen dollar purchase of the “pink edition” album will go to the Susan G. Komen organization.
- David Pyndus has a review of Lucinda William’s recent two-hour set that was taped for Austin City Limits.
- Peter Cooper gives the highlights from an event on Sunday night that saw the induction of Dottie Rambo, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs, Hank Williams Jr., Mac McAnally, and Bob DiPiero into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He also has the highlights from Monday night, when Kenny Rogers, Craig Wiseman, and John Rich took home awards at the 45th Annual ASCAP Country Music Awards.
- In his review of the recent Johnny Cash DVD release Tom Useted writes “unlike much of what’s come out in the last four years, The Best of the Johnny Cash TV Show is worthwhile to both the casual Cash fan and anyone interested in American popular music.”
- The big news over the weekend was that Joe Nichols entered rehab for substance abuse.
- Turner Publishing currently has a book titled Historic Photos of the Opry: Ryman Auditorium 1974 in the pre-sale stage that sounds interesting. There’s a video preview of the book as well.
- In what seems like a no-brainer Alan Jackson has been added to the list of performers for CMT Giants: Hank Williams Jr. Other performances that have been just added are Holly Williams and Shooter Jennings. On a sidenote, the CMT trailer at Big State was pimping this show like no tomorrow. Brady knew the answer to two Hank Jr. trivia questions in a row, but the host only allowed him to answer one while the rest of the crowd took stabs at guessing the second.
- Edward Morris asks “Is bluegrass music the new Branson, the last resort for aging country artists who can’t get major record deals?”
- Apparently Luke and Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson were chillin’ backstage at Big State watching their buddy Willie Nelson perform. Sucks that they didn’t make an appearance…at least that I know.
- On the subject of Willie, he and his fellow Last of the Breed comrades are racking up good reviews for the recently released DVD of their special tour.
This concert DVD will surely bless your little heart if you happen to be the last of another breed: the traditional country music fan.
- In 1974 Willie Nelson held his second 4th of July picnic at the Texas World Speedway, the same site as this year’s Big State Festival. During that picnic a number of cars caught fire, one of which was Robert Earl Keen’s, who was also on stage when the cars at Big State caught on fire this year.

I heard that Willie’s friends were in Texas to film the video for Willie’s song, ‘You don’t think I’m funny anymore.’ I don’t know if they got the Bad Boy Mower race going; maybe Willie will talk about it if he calls in to the Bill Mack xm satellite radio show tomorrow. But I do know it was scheduled to happen, the Wilson boys, Woody, and Jessica Simpson. Maybe not the mowers; maybe the guys sitting around playing poker while Jessica played pool. It will be a good video, anyway, and you know they had fun making it.

the cmt.com blog post about artists going to bluegrass after their own heydays is a tad off the mark, in my opnion. Its a simplistic outlook on veterens who have truly “been there and done that”. Are we expecting merle to break out another “working man’s blues”? he has tried, and in my opnion his newer stuff with political tones is pretty good regardless. The Hag, and others like him merely want to expand their horizons and fan-base at the same time. We also forget that many of these artists are great musicians as well, and bluegrass lets them stretch the musical legs that they may not have stretched in quite some time.

Very true, Dave. First she’s hosting drinking parties and now she’s taking dogs on planes and causing scenes.
Linda – My girlfriend said that people were calling into the local radio station this morning saying that they had seen the celebrities around town over the weekend. I sure hope the mower race happened.
Kelly – I listened to the new Haggard album a couple of times and didn’t really dig the sound. It seems if he really wanted to stretch his musical legs, or expand his musical horizons, he would have included more of a bluegrass flavor than he actually did.

Sadly, even great country stars can fall victim to the sickness that is Hollywood livin’ heheh. If i ever saw someone with a dog gettin wild on a plane, i think i’d complain too. Fortunately, we can still listen to their music without having to listen to their life stories. Have any of you tuned in to Lonestar 92.5?
