What followed the delayed “Whiskey River” opener was an hour and a half whirlwind of nearly every great song Willie has written or borrowed from the likes of Hank, Ray, Billy Joe, Waylon and Kris. He turned furious on Trigger at times, strumming harder than players a third his age and proving once again that it’s not just his voice that matters.
- The new Brad Paisley album, This Is Country Music, is scheduled for release May 24.
- The Band Perry reached gold status for its self-titled debut.
- Ninebullets.net is spotlighting an album from Adam Lee & The Dead Horse Sound Company titled When the Spirits Move Me.
- Willie Nelson, Norah Jones and Wynton Marsalis joined up for a couple of concerts in 2009 and paid tribute to the music of Ray Charles. On March 29, a selection of recordings from those performances will be released as an album titled Here We Go Again: Celebrating the Genius of Ray Charles.
- On March 7, Kenny Rogers will release a new gospel record, The Love of God, through Cracker Barrel, making him the first artist to release a second album with the restaurant.
- Here’s a new video from Trampled By Turtles for their song “Victory.”

Gotta love Miley Cyrus. It was the TV show, not the parents who allowed her to star in said show and even took a role in it themselves.

Hey, BIlly Ray, why don’t you blame her manager? Oh yeah, that’s right, YOU’RE her manager.
What’s the over-under on how long it takes Glen Campbell to decide he’s not hanging it up after all.

“Hey, BIlly Ray, why don’t you blame her manager? Oh yeah, that’s right, YOU’RE her manager.” Actually if you read the GQ article, he says he’s not her manager, that it’s a common misperception. That said, hard to have much sympathy for him — he says he never would say no as a parent, then blames the show for whatever problems his daughter now has. A father who refuses to exercise his duties as a parent or guardian is asking for trouble, whether or not his child is on a TV show. I may be wrong, but I feel like I remember these kind of self-pitying interviews from him when his career cratered after “Achy Breaky”..

Yeah, I seem to recall him boohoo-ing back then, too. Regardless, I’m sure Mullet Boy has made a handy living off his daughter.

Trampled By Turtles continues to impress me

The thing is, if it was so very heart breaking for him to go into work everyday, why didn’t he quit?
February 16, 2011 at 2:48 pm
Actually, if you read the interview, Cyrus says things like “I should have been a better parent.”
Congrats to TBP; I’m looking forward to seeing them tomorrow.

The thing is: Hannah Montana wasn’t there when Billy Ray was posing with his daughter in psuedo-sexual poses and wrapping her naked, jailbait body in a blanket to sell magazines. Billy Ray was. And he thought it was totally awesome as long as he was cashing a paycheck. Now that the show is over and she’s 18 so he can’t keep a chunk of her money NOW the show is a bad idea.
Also, did Hannah Montana let Noah Cyrus (age 9) start her own clothing line, push her into the entertainment industry or drive her to the Future Strippers of America meetings she is apparently dressing for? No, that would be Billy Ray who did that.

my favourite line in the BRC GQ article is where he says that he had the whole family baptized before the went to California to protect them from evil. Lol! Awesome. What about something to protect you from being crazy?? *shakes head* …some people…

Still haven’t bothered to read the interview, eh? Or is that just more unlabeled “theorizing” to which facts are just irrelevant?
February 16, 2011 at 3:46 pm
She is an 18 year old girl with tons of cash 99% of people in that position are going to raise some hell. Hopefully she wont go off the deep end nothing that major has happened yet Billy just needs to chill out. I’ll bet he raised some hell in his day. Haven’t we all!

I read that interview, and I’m sorry to say I was initially quite moved by it… until I read this Metafilter comment, which highlighted a casual contempt for people like me (though I’d rather call myself an agnostic) that I hadn’t especially noticed.
A common meme among the religious is that atheism itself robs humankind of their moral compass and capacity to care for their fellow man, so I found it especially ironic that he reserved this casual contempt for a group of conscientious, civic-minded atheists.
And what did he do in response? Organize some of the cast and crewmembers to adopt another stretch of highway? Volunteer time at a soup kitchen? Nope! He “re-baptized” his family to protect them from spiritual peril… a strategy I believe to be just as effective as Mormon underwear.
(By the way, I think the reason I missed the initial outrage over his considering atheists as satanists was because I, growing up in a Christian environment with varying degrees of fundamentalism, witnessed similar pronouncements… including one, against Freemasons, made in exactly the same context.)
By the way, your content management system sucks. Feel free to delete this observation when my comment no longer displays in bold.

I always thought Cyrus was a chump. This entire article just proves it.

Music City Roots Alert! Tonight’s MCR show has been labeled “The Folk Alliance”. Artists slated to appear include: Ron Sexsmith, Kevin Welch, David Jacobs (of Strain?), Dehlia Low, and The Coal Porters (get it?), and is hosted by Peter Cooper. The fun starts at 5PM Nashville time. Sounds like a good’un!

Man, I just so feel for what Billy Ray is going through!…NOT! (lol) Hey, big money fame and success will do that to impressionable young teens living in LA. I guess Billy pairing her up with underwear boy Justin Gaston (who may be gay for all we know) from Nashville Star didn’t keep her on the straight and narrow. What a surprise! Billy should go into politics like his daddy! He’s no more of a clueless democrat than California’s new governor after all…

Yeah Whitney Duncan!!!! Did she part ways with her label? Because on itunes it says it was released by Whitney Duncan not Warner Bros. or Reprise
February 16, 2011 at 6:41 pm
“The Folk Alliance” is an actual organization for the folk genre community, overlapping into singer/songwriter, which will be having its annual convention/.conference in Memphis starting tomorrow. So some of ‘em are passing through Nashville tonight..

I thought BRC’s comment about wanting to be her friend more than her parent was pretty dead on. I see that element in a lot of my friends who are parents- they want their kids to like them and as a result, let those kids get away with murder.
I read that article and saw BRC as a dad who made some bad parenting decisions, just like a lot of people. His problem, however, is that his kid is in the spotlight, with millions of fans and there are other adults in her life to “help” her make choices. When he failed to step up and say “no” to things, it spiraled out of his control.
I feel bad for their whole family- seems like a lot of bad decisions were made and the repercussions are starting to be felt. Hopefully, Miley will figure her own life out and not pull a Lindsey Lohan or Britney Spears.

The problem is he wasn’t acting like a friend he was acting like a pimp.

After opening up to GQ about his belief that Miley Cyrus’ fame “destroyed” his family, Billy Ray Cyrus tells People he’s focused on “mending” things at home. “My family is the most important thing I have, and we are working together to make sure our future is stronger and healthier,” he says, adding that statements he made
blaming Disney for his divorce and Miley’s apparent downward spiral were “explosive, and unintentionally so.” “It is all a learning process,” he says, “and we thank everyone for their support and respect of our privacy as we sort through very important family issues.”
Someone needs to tell Billy Ray that blathering to GQ is not a good way to ensure privacy.
