Foley had several other smart, poignant songs to his credit. But his personality was his other great claim to fame. He was a larger-than-life character. Morlix says some of Foley’s early shows were practically performance art. He’d pass around a photo of himself as an obese youth during a song called I Won’t Be Your Fat Boy Anymore. Foley hated country singer David Allan Coe, so he covered a discarded toilet with a black seat and sequins and used it as a stage prop: David Allan Commode, the Mysterious Rhinestone Toilet.

Bill Engvall is the perfect host for the CMT Awards as everyone who tunes in will receive an honorary “sign” from Bill….
I’m pleasantly surprised at the level of support CMT is putting behind the new BOMSHEL video, and the single seems to be gaining traction of Top 40 country radio as well. Kelley has a really nice voice when she’s not screaming or over doing it. This song is well suited for today’s market as it sounds like something Carrie Underwood would record. Its both radio and soccer mom friendly, unlike say “Bomshel Stomp”…
Thanks for the link to The Belleville Outfit performance. Their music is so far off the beaten path I think they will appeal to fans of artists like Justin Townes Earle and The Greencards who appreciate the unique and unusual. The band is full of skilled musicians, but the piano/keyboard player really shines.

Sarah Siskind’s album is excellent, and I think a lot of the Americana-favoring folks here would dig it big time.
Thanks for the pointer to the Chris Jones/Nightdrivers entry on the Bluegrass Blog. We had a great time tracking, and I’m looking forward to hearing the mixes next week.

I’ve liked what I heard of The Belleville Outfit, but I can’t quite shake the notion they’re a bunch of pretty kids playing at music rather than a bunch of musicians playing music they love. I guess I still need a “Eureka” moment with them.

I actually think Bill Engvall is a good choice to host the CMT Awards – but Jeff Foxworthy must have been unavailable.
And the Musicor box set is a great addition to any Jones fan’s collection. I didn’t know many of the songs, but I am really enjoying the discovery.

I just want to send props to Brody for such a great site. Thanks for grabbing all the great stories I’m too lazy to surf for on my own. Please keep up the good work.

Almost unrecognizable Toby Keith until he starts singing and “that wonderful voice” pours out! Heart wrenching performance. God keep the Tisdale family and all of Wayman’s friends in his hands through this terribly hard time.
