This is why a reviewer should research the artist if they aren’t familiar with them. He never pulled a gun on Waylon, although he did confront him. This review came off as a writer needing to fill a word count.

I found the amount of disinformation in the first two paragraphs to be baffling. The duet with Johnny Cash was recorded in the late 70’s, so it’s not “technology and necrophilia” that are responsible. That was a lame attempt at humor. I read Shaver’s autobiography, and he never mentioned pulling a gun on Waylon to get him to listen to the songs and Billy Joe never mentioned that in my interview with him, either. And shooting a guy just for disrespecting him? Someone seriously needs to check their facts. It’s also idiotic to compare the album to mainstream Nashville releases. The rest of the review just fizzled into incomprehensible babble. Oh well.

Don’t forget, he can’t really sing yet “turns in the best country vocal performance of the year.” The disc only slows down too much sometimes, which means at other times it’s an OK slow down, or that it shouldn’t slow down at all?

Brody, I am scratching my head with you in regards to the popmatters review of the new shaver disc. if you dont like it fine, not everyine thinks he is the legend that i think he is. If you like it, great! But the reviewer seems to be thinking out loud as he argues with himself on whether or not shaver is a legend or a loser, a talent, or a hack. in the end his only issue was that the disc “slowed down” too much. so what did he use the previous paragraphs of spite and criticism for??
