I got to experience a live Joey + Rory unplugged set here in Los Angeles last night at a “listening venue” (ie enforced quiet during performances) and they rokced! (Well, not literally…) I was trying to figure out why this date was booked but the large number of Vanguard/Sugar Hill label folks in the audience answered that question. Rory told of how he was stationed here in Socal during his stint as a Marine at the El Toro air station in Orange Country and a pal of his from the Corp. he hadn’t seen in 16 years was in the audience. The set consisted of songs off of “The Life Of a Song”, “That’s Important to Me” off Joey’s album, and a bunch of Rory’s earlier songs and some killer new material. Rory has a fine singing voice and I hope he gets to sing lead on some of the songs on the next album! The set started with “Sweet Emmylou” and ended with “Buy Our CD” and there was not a weak song in the bunch. Well OK, Rory’s song about a recently widowed granny wearing Daisy Dukes and the song “Veterinarian Blues” about a male dog facing neutering surgery pushed the envelope a bit…(lol)
Wow, four entrants for the John Prine ticket contest and I didn’t win! And I was so looking forward to wearing a “NOBAMA” t-shirt covered with McCain-Palin campaign buttons…(lol)
Now wait a minute! What’s a soccer mom like Alison Bonaguro doing working for Playboy? What kind of message will that send to her daughter? tsk tsk….

I would have thought that “Somewhere Other Than the Night” would have made a better movie, but maybe the whole “nothin’ but her apron on” scene would be a little too non-Lifetime.

Oh man, I like Garth, but I’m not looking forward to this movie. He hasn’t had any luck getting his movie ideas off the ground so far, so it’s possible we won’t actually have to be subjected to this one either. I suspect it would be a great subject for one of Juli’s future movie features though.

Actually Leeann, ‘Call Me Claus’ was very well recieved and did as well in the ratings on the repeats as the original airings. Garth was the executive produced and script consultant on the movie.

Hmmm…I never saw that movie. Juli, will you write about it?

Wasn’t Unanswered Prayers inspired by the late Dan Fogelberg’s “Same Old Lang Syne”?

It actually was inspired by a chance meeting with an old high school girlfriend at a craft fair during a visit to his folks.
