- In an article for Kingsport Times-News Online, Wes Bunch introduced readers to Lesley Riddle, an African-American musician, who was an important influence to the Carter Family’s music, and ultimately, American music.
“It’s often said that A.P was the word man, he remembered the lyrics,” Olson said. “And Lesley Riddle was very strong in composition skills, he knew how to translate a melody to paper, so that’s how they complemented each other so well, they both had talents and they were in complementary areas. You might say that A.P. Carter needed Lesley in those early years for effective song catching.”
- Jake Owen discusses his favorite Nashville hangouts, paying tribute to his influences and a little country music 101 in his interview with CMT’s Craig Shelburne.
- Barry Mazor comments on Americana music and the shuffling of artists from one genre to another:
The specific audiences eventually got used to the ways in which performers within their genres … approached them, and handled the music. So it’s really not surprising that would-be genre jumpers and expanders, back in the day or today, faced new self-presentation issues when reaching out to places where audience expectations are different. Americana in particular has virtually always been about performers moseying into the corral from somewhere else – and there is evidence, much of it on CD and video now, of how those issues were dealt with.

- The My Kind of Country blog profiled the life and career of Connie Smith, who Dolly Parton fondly spoke of when she said, “There’s only three real female singers: Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, and Connie Smith. The rest of us are only pretending.” Today, Smith is married to country musician and historian Marty Stuart and is a regular on the Opry.
- Freelance writer Grant Britt reviewed a recent Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel concert in a special to the News & Record.
Nelson tossed his hat into the crowd, strolling offstage as the band surrounded him with the wall of sound that enhanced his performance as well or better than his own road band. But with the sheer force of his presence, Nelson reminded the audience that on this night, and on this tour, this Wheel revolved around Willie.
- The HearYa indie music blog posted a live session from Those Darlins, who they describe as having a classic Nashville sound combined with enough sexuality in their appearance and songs to give it an edge.

It’s sad when the most interesting new music featured on a country music based blog is from Chris Isaak…
“Those Darlins” are the perfect match for Unknown Hinson! The King of Country Western Troubadours has finally met his female equivalent musical soulmates! (lol)

Radney Foster sent out the following note to his mailing list:
“And for my Nashville fans, please come on out tonight, February 24th, for a very special night of music to benefit Danny Petraitis, a friend who is battling brain cancer. Delbert McClinton, Hal Ketchum, Joey + Rory, Rivers Rutherford, FAB and a host of others will be there, so please come out and support this cause. We’ll be at the Mercy Lounge, starting at 7pm.”

That is SO why I want to be in Nashville. For all the “last minute” stuff like that. I’d have to beg off work within the next hour or so to make it up there in time.

I wanted to go to that benefit but funds don’t allow.

Well, it says on the Mercy site that it is $20 – $99 — but when you click on “buy tickets” it only shows $20 general admission. I wouldnt go either for $99!

Very little music is worth $99, but for 20…this is well worth it! Thanks for the heads up!

As always, thanks for the link to the blog, Brody.
