Free Music Downloads: Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson – Rattlin’ Bones

Here at The 9513, we know how you like your country music–free. So just think of our Free Music series as our contribution to the economic bailout.
Today’s relief comes courtesy of Australian songstress Kasey Chambers, who joins forces with musician/husband Shane Nicholson for the rousing rootsgrass collection that is Rattlin’ Bones.
Grab a Foster’s, toss a another shrimp on the barbie, and crank up these rugged, outback-country tracks. After all, the sweet harmony of Chambers and Nicholson are sure to have you sayin’ crickey!
“After giving us rock-focused records at their previous outing, Chambers and Nicholson now fully immerse themselves in the roots of Americana: bluegrass, white man’s gospel, raw-boned country and the blues. And along with the subject matter at the core of all that music (sin and salvation, love and loss) are those instruments essential for making the point (acoustic guitars mostly, fiddle, banjo and drums made to accompany, not lead).”
–Bernard Zuel, Sydney Morning Herald
“The songs roam through various country scenarios, from the rebel, Steve Earle-like sound of the title track (the opening song and apparently the first one the pair wrote together) and the lazy Nashville twang of “Sweetest Waste Of Time” to the sprightly, banjo-driven bluegrass romp of “The Devil’s Inside My Head” and the grittier rock tinges of “Jackson Hole”. But whatever they do (and it’s all done so well), the way these two harmonize alone makes this effort worth it.”
–Bill Holdsworth, Rave Magazine

It was nice that Sugar Hill picked up this album for US distribution as the price of the Aussie import CDs ran at around $ 25 or more! I hope Kasey & Shane come back for a more extensive tour after their two week barnstorm trip back in September as far more fans deserve to see this music performed live. After the pop oriented “Carnival” it was refreshing that Kasey got back to her outback hillbilly roots.
