Free Music Download: Raul Malo – “Lucky One”

The 9513′s Jim Malec recently interviewed Fantasy Records recording artist and former Maverick’s lead Raul Malo, a singer widely considered one of the best baritones in the world. Malo’s latest solo project, Lucky One, was released on March 3rd, and we have a free download of the title track.
“Malo is one of those rare singers who transcend the mundane with the sheer operatic sweep of his marvelous instrument. He’s among the last of a breed: a country stylist with finesse and brawn in equal measure, turning his laments into bittersweet valentines.”

Wow! Thanks for this! Raul Malo has a wonderful, strong voice and unlike a lot of “american Idol” pretenders can sing and hold a tune. I have all his solo material and all the Mavericks as well and continue to enjoy his work. I definitely will get the new CD…I downloaded and liked the title track. Also, joining the new Fantasy Records is a good move…joining label mate John Fogerty and others.

Raul is doing a show with Shelby Lynne as the opening act at the House of Blues in Anaheim and the tickets made yesterday’s “Two For The Price of One Tuesdays” list. I guess Raul isn’t fully appreciated in Orange County….yet.
Speaking of operatic voices, on “A Prarie Home Companion” they often feature a tenor named Raul Melo. At first I thought it was actually Raul Malo performing under a character name for the show, but a little research showed them to be two different people. What a couple of amazing vocal talents! Crikey!

Raul has a beautiful voice, but I don’t much like the material or production choices on this particular release.
