Do they even make Schlitz and Pabst anymore?

Hehe, thanks! Tanya Tucker is my kind of gal...I was so sure this song was going to be by a guy, but I was pleasantly surprised - it's good ol' Tanya, keeping it real. Wish there were more like her in country music today.

I don't know about Schlitz, but they definitely still make Pabst because I've had it (hehe). That's where the similarities end with the song, though, because you couldn't pay me enough to get me to drink more than one can, let alone an entire case. Yeccch.

Oh man, the bowl of grits is mandatory for me! I love 'em. I'd trade up for biscuits and gravy if you twisted my arm, though. Mmm, Loveless Cafe biscuits... I swear the thing I'm most excited about doing in Nashville next week is going back to the Loveless Cafe. Best biscuits in the country, no lie. ...Uh, anyway, what were we talking about again?

Roses are red and violets are purple
Sugar is sweet and so is maple syruple
I was the seventh out of seven sons
My pappy was a pistol
I'm a son of a gun.

"Baby You're Back" by Crystal Shawanda:

Last time I laid eyes on you
I was burnin' you're photograph
Thats the drastic
kinda things things you do
When your livin' through the aftermath
Of a love gone bad

I changed the locks
Upon the rock that
I waited so long to wear
In a desperate search to finally purge
Myself of the love we shared
And just when I'm gettin' there
Here you come like a train
Out of nowhere

You've gotta alot a nerve
Showin' your face round here
Told you to stay
Stay away but you won't
But you don't
Just like a voodoo shadow
Slippin' in between the cracks
I thought I'd chained your memory
To a railroad track
Look over my shoulder
Turn around baby you're back

A big mistake was all you were
Like a stain from a bad tattoo
[ Crystal Shawanda Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
Shed my skin start again
But you keep on bleedin' through
Thats what you do
There ain't no gettin' rid of you

You've gotta alot a nerve
Showin' you're face round here
Told you to stay
Stay away but you won't
But you don't
Just like a voodoo shadow
Slippin' in between the cracks
I thought I'd chained your memory
To a railroad track
Look over my shoulder
Turn around baby you're back

Just like a voodoo shadow
Slippin' in between the cracks
I thought I'd chained you're memory
To a railroad track
Thought the wheels would roll it flat
Look over my shoulder
Turn around baby you're back

Hey yeeaahh baby you're back
Look over my shoulder turn aarrooouunnddd Babbbbbbyyyy you're baaaaacccckk
Ahhh baby you're back
Turn around baby you're baaaccckkk

I just love the lyrics in the songs by the Dixie Chicks... The bridge in "Long Time Gone" has some of my favorite lines in it:

Now they sound tired, but they don't sound haggard
They got money, but they don't got Cash
They got Junior, but they don't got Hank
I thank
I thank
I thank the rest is....

Its just so clever

Now in this world there's a lot of self-righteous hypocrites that call me bad
They criticized my Mama for turnin' me out, no matter how little we had
But though I ain't had to worry about nothin' for nigh on fifteen years
Well I can still hear the desperation of my poor Mama's voice ringin' in my ears

She said here's your one chance Fancy, don't let me down
Here's your one chance Fancy, don't let me down
Lord forgive me for what I do, but if you want out it's up to you
Now don't let me down, now your Mama's gonna move you uptown

Oh, and I guess she did

Some Jim Lauderdale magic:

Now life's so fast and everything is changing'
And if your changing too, then I don't blame you.
I remember how you used to kiss me,
But when I'm gone you don't seem to miss me.

What about the latest from George Strait, Living For The Night:
'Whiskey kills the man you turned me into'?
If you think we have not been trapping, you have not been looking!

Jamey Johnson - "That Lonesome Song"

What the hell did I do last night
That's the story of my life
Like tryin' to remember words
To a song nobody wrote

Rodney Crowell - "Preachin' To The Choir"

My self importance is a god forsaken bore
I aim for heaven but I wake up on the floor
I'd take up with rattlesnakes to get my point across
I'd argue with a parking brake to show em who's the boss
It's my intention to inspire Instead I'm Preachin to the choir

When I'm standing at the St Peters gate a trying to slip on in
I might as well plead guilty to the worst of who I've been
I used to like to think I had a special way with words
But right now I'm convinced I've more in common with the birds
I'm not ready to retire I'll keep on Preachin to the choir

Rodney Crowell - "Still Learning How To Fly"

Life's been good I said
I'm 10,000 miles ahead
The day I rest is the day I die
I've got a past like a broken wing
But you ain't seen anything
I'm still learning how to fly

Many a Long and Lonesome Highway
(Rodney Crowell, Will Jennings)

Yes I had a woman love me gave her what there was there of me
It was good as it could be
Then I heard a wild world calling, I saw a lone star falling
Caught a song and set it free
Many a long and lonesome highway lies before us as we go
In the end I'll do it my way
Look for me where the four winds blow
I believe in love and danger
I believe that truth is stranger
I believe that fear is much too strong
I believe the best will find me when I leave the rest behind me
Out on the highway I'm on my own
Every night's a new beginning every day the world keeps spinning
Sometimes it's hard to stand upon my own
To the east the moon comes showing to the west the storm clouds growing
Though by myself I'm not alone
My father on his deathbed told me there's really nothing left to hold me
Though I was there he died alone
It's gonna take a fast train leaving to shake my world of grieving
Guess I'll go until it's gone
Many a long and lonesome highway lies before us as we go
In the end I'll do it my way look for me where the four winds blow

I've had to think up a way to survive
Since you said it's over
Told me good-bye
I just can't make it one day without you
Unless I pretend that the opposite's true
Rivers flow backwards
Valleys are high
Mountains are level
Truth is a lie
I'm perfectly fine
And I don't miss you
The sky is green
And the grass is blue

How much can a heart and a troubled mind take
Where is that fine line before it all breaks
Can one end their sorrow
Just cross over it
And into that realm of insanitive bliss

There's snow in the tropics
There's ice on the sun
It's hot in the Arctic
And crying is fun
And I'm happy now
And I'm glad we're through
And the sky is green
And the grass is blue

And the rivers flow backwards
And my tears are dry
Swans hate the water
And eagles can't fly
But I'm alright now
Now that I'm over you
And the sky is green
And the grass is blue
And I don't love you
And the grass is blue

Is it wrong to smile when I hear the line "hood slidin' like Bo Duke" in Dierks Bentley's "What Was I Thinking"? Probably, but hey, it immediately paints a picture in my mind of what's going on, and isn't that part of what lyrics are supposed to do?

I like the lyrics to "Many a Long and Lonesome Highway," Stormy. Haven't heard that song...I ought to go listen to it!

The first time we met is a favorite mem'ry of mine
They say time changes all it pertains to
But your memory is stronger than time.
I guess everything does change except what you choose to recall
There's a million good daydreams to dream on
But, baby, you are my faorite mem'ry of all.

Go to Hell, go to Hell, go back where you belong
Get thee behind me Satan, just leave me alone
Take your drugs and your alcohol, your vices and leave
Go to Hell in a handbasket, just get away from me
Go to Hell (go to Hell), go to Hell (go to Hell)
Go to Hell in a handbasket 'cause heaven waits for me

Listen close and you can hear,
That loud jukebox playin' in my ear.
Ain't no woman gonna change the way I think.
Think I'll just stay here and drink

Hurtin' me now don't mean a thing.
Since lovin' you, don't feel no pain.
My mind ain't nothin' but a total blank.
I think I'll just stay here and drink, yeah
