Plans for 2009

Reviews, recaps, schedules, ect. for live shows.

Postby farmersdaughter on February 14th, 2009, 5:03 pm

Are there any concerts you plan to attend this year (or just attended in Jan/Feb)? We'll be seeing Jamey Johnson in a few weeks as well as Hal Ketchum at a separate show. Right now I don't know of future shows attending beyond those two. Would be interesting to hear what everyone is looking forward to.

Britney Spears in April :D

I wanted to see Jewel in January, but my mom declined ... she says I'm alrdy going to Britney so I can't go to another concert soon

What I would love though is to see Miranda Lambert in concert :)

I've seen Adam Hood, Tom Russell, and Asleep at the Wheel so far. I've got tickets to see Guy Clark later this month in a closeup acoustic setting. On March 1st I'm going to see a guitar pull with Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Michael Martin Murphey, and Allen Shamblin. I'm hopin' to be able to drop by an acoustic show later that night with Jason Eady, Ryan Bingham, and Adam Hood. Then I'm takin' a trip in April for a once in a lifetime show, but I'll have to let y'all guess who it'll be.

I just got back from Hayes Carll and I'll be seeing all the same shows Brady listed except the Kristofferson & Hag... I mean once in a lifetime show.

I saw Mark Olson & Gary Louris (of the Jayhawks) this past weekend... great show. It's amazing that after a good decade or more of not recording together, they can still nail their harmonies so well.

There's a ton of great artists coming to my neck of the woods this year (The Chieftains, Justin Townes Earle, Lucinda Williams, Richard Thompson, Neko Case), but thanks to the economy, my entertainment budget has been cut way back. The only group I've bought tickets for are The Pogues for March 9 in Atlanta.

So far I've got Gretchen Wilson on my list, and if I can save enough money before June, I might go to Kentucky to see Jamey Johnson. Oh yeah, and Cash'd Out, a local Johnny Cash tribute.

I wonder if Asleep at the Wheel is coming anywhere around here...that'd be cool to see.

I am making it a point to see Sugarland this year. And Trisha Yearwood too if she does any touring on the east coast at all.

I missed Sugarland last week and was pretty disappointed. Was just getting back from holiday that day, and it would have given me two hours to get home, dump my stuff and get across the city, and it just wasn't worth the risk of a flight or train delay.

Saw Kathy Mattea in January, supported by Cherryholmes, and they were both absolutely fantastic. You can tell Mattea is so invested in everything she sings, and she puts on a great, varied show, and really makes sure the crowd both learns something and has a great time. Can't wait for her to be back.

I was planning to see Taylor Swift again in May, but it's sold out, so the next one is Wine, Women and Song (Gretchen Peters, Matraca Berg and Suzy Bogguss) later that month.

I highly recommend seeing Jamey in concert. He's got 3 shows in Kentucky lined up. We saw him at the Lawsonville, NC show and it was one of those experiences I'll never forget.

We're going to see Alan Jackson down in Corbin (KY) next month. They opened up a new Expo Center and Montgomery Gentry was just there a week or so ago. They are even getting folks like 3 Doors Down and the Gaither Homecoming to come.

Looks like we may see Darius Rucker in July, but not for sure. Got a few other shows as well planned for the year if we are able to get tickets to.

I'm going to do my darnedest to go, for sure. Just watching live videos of his shows on YouTube gets me excited! He's not coming anywhere in the Western US, so by god, I'm going to him, hehe. Glad to hear you had a great time - I can't wait!

Have you been to 4th Street Live in Louisville? That's the one I'm thinking of going to (I can fly directly there without having to drive another 3 hours to some county fair). I hear it's free - do you have any advice on how early to get there (if you've been there)?

Oh no, its about the money ... she spent a lot on my Britney Spears concert, with tickets and merchandise it was probably about $250

Economic times are bad after all :|

I swear that I will go see Miranda Lambert in concert someday, since she's such an amazing live performer and one of my favorites :D

Dale Watson is coming to Norway in June this year, and I'm seeing him if nothing gets in the way.

I see. I think that's a factor for lots of people who are skipping concerts. I'm not sure about Miranda, but Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney both offer seats that are about 20 bucks a piece. (The AP ran a piece about it the other day with Urban on the cover. Some artists are offering free CDs, t-shirts, downloads, or just general merchandise credit at their booths to offset ticket prices.) Your best bet would be to attend a festival or a package show that Miranda is also appearing at - you get more music for your buck that way, plus these huge stadium shows are usually the ones with the 'working man seats'.

Just caught Lucinda Williams the other week and I am currently looking forward to Adam Harvey, Brooks & Dunn and Rodney Crowell in the next few months. Should be a good '09.

Anybody else going to the Wagon Wheel Festival in Lake Elsinore in September? I'm thinking about going, to see Travis Tritt and Ashton Shepherd, specifically. Too bad they're playing on different days, but I'll see what I can do...
