Hi all! I've been lurking for a while now and thought I'd join in...

Name: Rose (just my screen name, though...my name's not really Rose)
Location: Southern California
Occupation: Student, guitar slinger
Favorite artists: George Strait, Alan Jackson, JAMEY JOHNSON, Gretchen Wilson, Miranda Lambert, Ashton Shepherd, Hank Williams (I, II, and III), Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw
Last concert: Last country concert was Alan Jackson in 2004, but I'm seeing Gretchen Wilson in May
Most recently purchased albums: Carl Perkins - The Dance Album

I'm more of a rock fan, actually, but I grew up listening to country because of my dad, and lately I'm sick of all the indie clones and emo whiners, so I've been getting back into it (along with the blues). I like pretty much any type of country, but I'm not too big on the super-poppy stuff (Taylor, Carrie, Faith, etc.).

Yeah! Love her, she's so awesome. The first time I heard Gunpowder & Lead I was like :o . I love blues too, so that kinda hit me right at the heart.

I like Trisha Yearwood and LeAnn Womack, too, especially Trisha.

She's like my second favorite country artist; she's got good vocals and she's a killer songwriter ;)

This is going to sound weird, but the last time I heard her was when No Place That Far came out, so I'm way behind on the Sara Evans thing. It's freaking me out that she has a greatest hits album, lol. I really liked that song when it came out, though, and I do like her voice. It kind of reminds me of a combination of Jennifer Nettles and Rhonda Vincent (or am I just crazy?).

After listening to some of her songs on iTunes, hmm...I like her more traditional songs, like Cheatin', Coalmine and Suds in the Bucket (I guess that's more on the traditional side, anyway), but I'm not so hot on ones like As If and A Real Fine Place to Start. So all in all, yeah, I like her pretty well. You'll have to give me some time to listen to her more, but I think she's pretty good, sure.

I don't hear anything remotely similar to Jennifer Nettles or Rhonda Vincent in her voice.

But, glad to have you aboard, Rose!

I don't know who Rhonda Vincent is, but I don't think Sara Evans' voice is like Jennifer's at all; she's not nasal twang (which is fine, I love Jen's voice)

Lol, ok, I'm just nuts! I dunno, it just seems like if Jennifer turned down the twang a whoooole bunch and just let a tiny bit creep out, that's what Sara is going for. But yeah, she has a much less nasal quality to her voice than Nettles. Can't explain myself on Rhonda - I guess I'm just out of my mind!

Thanks for the welcome! I've been enjoying reading you guys' posts for a while now (not to sound stalkery or anything).

Yes, Sara Evans definitely has a little twang to her voice

Its noticeable on some songs more than others, like "Cupid", "Four-Thirty", and "Three Chords and the Truth"

Yeah, she's great! Caught in the Crossfire makes me cry big-time.

Oh, and just realized that Alan Jackson was not the last country concert I've been to - I saw Hank Jr. last summer, duh!
