Texas question

Off-topic and miscellaneous discussion not pertaining to country music.

Postby Hollerin Ben on December 16th, 2008, 6:42 pm

Here's a general discussion question.

Is Texas part of "The South" or part of "The West"?

On one hand, they were part of the confederacy (right?) on the other hand the Texas motif is much more cowboy/mexican than it is plantation/civil war.

PLUS, as a Californian, I'd like to claim solidarity with Texas.

So Texans, care to clear this up for me at all?

I don't think people generally include Texas when they speak of the South or the West, but it's typically included when they talk about the Southwest. I'm sure that clears it all up...

Brady's right, "Southwest" is most accurate.

"South" yes. "Southern values" and "Southern people" (speach patterns, food, personalities) etc.

When I think "Cowboys and the old west" I think Texas.

They are definately more Southern than Western. Its a totally different vibe that way than Montana. And it is definately more Cowboys and Mexicans than Cowboys and Indians. I sometimes get a little homesick for Native American culture.
