Top tens: Kenny Rogers

Postby Peter Durward Harris on August 23rd, 2008, 1:57 pm

1 - Lucille
2 - The greatest gift of all (with Dolly)
3 - Evening star
4 - Scarlet fever
5 - Every time two fools collide (with Dottie)
6 - Coward of the county
7 - Ruby don't take your love to town - I actually like his UA solo re-recording better than the First Edition version
8 - I believe in Santa Claus (with Dolly)
9 - Love the world away
10 - The gambler - or maybe Don't fall in love with a dreamer (with Kim)

If I did the Dolly top ten nearer Christmas, I might have included at least one of the above Dolly/Kenny tracks in my top 10 of hers. But then again,, most of my top tens are fairly flexible, beyond whatever is #1.

I haven't bought any of Kenny's recent albums of original material so I'm not familiar with "Slow dance more". Maybe I'm missing out on more than I thought.

It came out around 1999. Wasn't a huge hit but I always liked it:

The Last Ten Years from his most recent, Waters and Bridges is a song that didn't receive enough attention. It's funny and surprising.
