Sugarland - Love

All things country!

Postby JR Journey on November 13th, 2008, 11:08 am

I was very surprised to hear Sugarland singing their song 'Love' last night at the CMAs. With 'Already Gone' still climbing the charts, I was sure they'd perform that one. So this one must be the next single release for the duo, which is also surprising to me. I totally thought either 'It Happens' or 'Joey' would be the next single. And I guess they still could be, but since they debuted the song on a major awards show, I expect it to start getting unsolicited airplay as early as this morning.

I've said before, I just don't get the appeal of 'Love' either. I could have picked at least 6 other songs that I like better from Love On The Inside that I think would make better singles too. The performance was flawless, but I just can't dig that song ... What do you all think? Do you like the song? The performance? Do you think it's a good choice for the next single?

Bad choice... I almost forgot what the song sounded like since I only listened to it a few times... much better tracks on the album to choose from. And the song is particularly bad when a male voice, presumably Bush, starts "singing" about 3 minutes in.

Bush's interruption is annoying, but otherwise I love the song.

I like the song, but Kristian's interuption kind of throws off the song. The performance was really good last night, though.

As far as I know, "Keep You" is the next single: it's on all the stickers on the album packaging billed as a "hit". Remember, Sugarland performed "Stay" before "Everyday America" was released as a single last year, so "Love" is not necessarily next.

Chris D., the sticker on the CD saying it contains such and such song doesn't necessarily mean it will be a single. Lots of times I've bought CDs with 3 or 4 songs listed on the front and completely different songs were released as singles.

That's true, but they generally give you an idea of which songs will be singles. ;)

You are right though.

This one's likely to be a single at some point in the next year regardless of whether it comes out next or not.

I think "Love" will be a good single; the performance they gave was quite good ;)

Whoever said "It Happens" should be a single is crazy :P

Then again, if Jennifer can release "All I Want to Do" as a lead-off single, you never know what she has in store

I'd love to see either "Joey", "We Run" or "Genevieve" get released but I think that "Love" or "It Happens" will be the most likely. "Steve Earle" would be cool but I doubt that it'd do good.

I think 'It Happens' was destined for radio from the beginning ... and while 'Genevieve' is my favorite on the album, I think it is a little too abstract and artsy (i.e. good) for country radio.

The way I see it they need a sad/slow song as a single to be the next "Stay", and I see "Keep You" filling that role. I also see "Love" as a potential single, but I also see "Take Me As I Am" as a good uptempo single.

Do you guys think they'll use any bonus tracks? "Fall Into Me" would be cool.

No, I'm almost positive they won't

An artist will sometimes use bonus tracks from like a deluxe edition if its released a year later w/ new stuff, ie: Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad

But a deluxe version like this, I doubt it

That's a great, great song too ... and I don't really think any of the bonus tracks will be singles. But, you never know. They could release one of those to try and drive up sales of the deluxe edition towards the end of the album's run ... We'll see.

True, but this kind of deluxe version hasn't really been used until lately, so Sugarland can really do whatever they want with it.

The only problem is the song being similar to Clay Walker's "Fall", even though Sugarland's is a million times better.

Actually, I hadn't made that comparison ... though I agree with your assessment.

No way this comes close to "Fall". Clay Walker is way underrated, and that song was a hit. His subsequent single which crapped out on the charts (partly due to a really poor naming of the song) was actually really good too. I'm interested to see what he's got planned for the future.

Ehhh... the video for "Fall" ruined the song for me because it was such a touching song that seemed so real, but in the video he just put out the appearance that he wanted sex which took away the deep emotion in the song.

I hadn't made the connection between Fall and Fall Into Me, either. I love both songs. Fall is one of my favourite songs ever, and Fall Into Me has potential to be another of my favourites. Fall was a very touching song, though I never really paid much attention to the video.

Hmm, I missed the post where "Fall Into Me" was introduced, I thought for some reason we were comparing "Love" to Walker's "Fall". I actually really like "Fall Into Me" and think it's probably my favorite track on the album... it'd be a really good choice for a single.
