Thank god for Patty Loveless!

All things country!

Postby YodelingBrit on November 12th, 2008, 6:32 pm

Downloaded the beautiful 'Sleepless Nights' album, she recently released, the other night. I have to say, it absolutely blew me away. Thanks god someone in Country is still paying homage to the beautiful, special history Country music has. She picks such beautiful timeless classic, but rather than just cover them, she puts every bit of her soul into singing them. This is what country music is all about. Difficult to pick my favourite tracks, but she does a cracking 'Crazy Arms' and she does a powerful rendition of Webb Pierce's 'There Stands the Glass'. She covers George Jones' 'Color of the Blues' very well too.

My hat goes off to you Patsy for showing what Country really is!

Anyone else get the album? I strongly recommend it, anyone who says they like Country surely cannot fail to like it.

It's a great album, definitely one of the best of 2008.

I still need to buy it, I've been meaning to...

I have the title track on my ipod though, and it's great.

There's a feature over at Roughstock where Patty talks about it (She was such a gracious interview too).

It's on the "want" list, but honestly, a Patty Loveless covers album just doesn't grab me as much as a Patty Loveless original music album does.

It really is a great album.

I was also definitely excited by her comment in her interview with Country Universe regarding a possible follow-up:

If things go well with this record, I’d love to do a classic-sounding, real country record, like from the ’50s and ’60s, but with newly-written songs that are fresh but still have those themes that I can connect to.

I know. xD

Lately there've been so many new albums I want to get: Lee Ann Womack, Joey + Rory, Taylor Swift, and next week Beyonce, and the week after that Coldplay! Then I can buy other albums. xD

(I work very few hours, so I have to be conservative with my spending.)
