Taylor Swift - Fearless

All things country!

Postby Clemson Brad on November 11th, 2008, 12:50 am

Alright...lets hear it...

Taylor Swift has always been a hot topic on this board, and I have really enjoyed the discussions. She is by no means close to being my favorite artist, but she is defintily one of the most interesting artist to me right now. I think she has potential to be a Garth Brooks like Superstar. (Regardless if she deserves it or not) I'd be lieing if I said I have not been looking forward to this album. I thought the first one was very well done and a great debut. I was so curious to see if the second CD would be similar to the first CD in style and quality.

So, what does everyone think of the new CD?

I think tracks 1-5 flow wonderfully. All of them sound like the Taylow Swift we know now. Stand outs to me are White Horse and Fifteen

Unfortunately, after these tracks the rest of the album really blended together for me...with really no stand out songs. I think this album is MUCH MORE poppy for her then her first album.(Not that she was really "Country" to begin with) but this album sounds more like a Colbie Caillat album then a female country album. The songs lyrics seem too deep for her as well...and my gosh, how many times does she mention "dancing in the rain" or "Kissing in the rain" in this album?

Overall, I am a little dissapointed with the album. If you were not a taylor swift fan before, this album will definitly not convert you. To be fair, I have only listened to it once, and I will definitly listen to it again to get a better feel for it. After first listen though, I give it a three out of five stars.

Haven't got a chance to listen to most of it yet, just a few album cuts. "You Belong With Me" was really bad though, so I hope there aren't many more tracks like that one.

I'm listening to "You're Not Sorry" atm, which isn't bad

"White Horse" and "Love Story" are quite brilliant though <3

Surprisingly, I like this album! Her voice is still bad, but I think it's very entertaining, but it's just good. I think my expectations for this album were so low that I like it better.

She's going to have to grow up very soon, though, and she doesn't on this album. Some tracks show promise like "White Horse" and "You're Not Sorry", but many are very young sounding, which is fine with me, seeing that I'm still in high school.

I really like this album so far. I knew that I would though, I'm a fanboy. You're completely right by saying that it is a lot more pop sounding. I like pop-country better than "old school" country, so I'm pretty happy so far. She shows some promise with songs like White Horse.

Taylor Swift had better release "White Horse", it's pretty obvious that it is pretty fan-favorite so far

She'd be crazy not to, in my opinion.

I'm sure that she'll get a couple more top three singles from this album. I think that I heard somewhere that she was going to release Fearless next, which isn't a bad idea. I think that Breathe could be a good pop song for her.

I think there is no question that "White Horse" is the best song on the album. I would release that as the next single, and then Fearless.

"Change" is the likely next single.

I'd bet my money on "Fearless" as the next single to be honest.

Alright, just got through it. Good stuff for the most part, a pretty solid 2nd album in my opinion. "You Belong With Me" is the clear weak link, as it's just lazy and childish lyrically, and "Tell Me Why" is a little bit too much teen angst for me... "Change" is also just flat-out not country, even if it does have a pretty simple hook and is being talked about as the next single. Some songs have a real nice acoustic overtone to them, like "White Horse", "Breathe", and "The Best Day", ... she's much better at that mellow sound than when she goes all pitchy and girly. And I'm surprised she didn't add "I'd Lie" to the album, as I don't believe that track has appeared on any of her previous albums either, but is about as good a microcosm as you can get on what her music has been so far, particularly the last few singles.

I just realized while reading this that she didn't have I'd Lie on the album. It doesn't make sense, it was a decent song, and it would go with the album's "theme."

I agree that "I'd Lie" should be on some album. Too good of a song not to be.

I will be very dissapointed if "Change" was the next single....to me, it just pours out average

Listened to the album again today, and I liked it better the second time through...but still, there is just four songs that are below average for her standards. I did enjoy "Breathe" and "The Best day" better the second time through, as well as "Your Not Sorry." Overall, I still feel the album is more of a let down.

After thinking more...I would release "Fearless" next and then "White Horse"

I say "Change" is the next single because the label has decided to make a video for it.

Do you mean the this video? If not, I apologise for the incessant challenging.

I just checked Amazon to see what kind of reviews were being posted for this album and saw that they are of the typical fanboy/girl "this is the greatest CD ever" variety. Interestingly, Amazon is not offering individual tracks for download; you have to download the entire album. I wonder if this is the beginning of a new trend. Individual tracks are available on iTunes; I don't think Apple allows album-only downloads.

I hope that Change isn't the next single, mostly because the song is too overproduced. It would have been good, but Taylor screamed too much in it. The video was nice though.

I didn't mention it in my review, but I thought "Change" sounded like a bad Creed track.
