From "Try" by Crystal Shawanda
"You spun that web baby,
You made that bed baby,
You made that brick wall that you're running into"

and

"You can try-ei-ei
To change me
You can say what you want w/ your pretty little eyes
You can beg, you can plead
But you won't get to me this time"

(I love the lyrics for her songs, they're all really good)

Definitely sacrilege! The Possum kills that song.

He was just a boy of seventeen
And I was older by a year
And we spent everything we ever made
To get away from here

We got married in the winter time
At the Open Doors Cafe
No matter how he tried, he couldn't fine the peace of mind to stay

^ From "Roll Me Back in Time" by Sara Evans, right?

If so, I know what you mean - the lyrics to that song are beautiful

Yeah, it's a great song. Sara's vocal and the guitar on that track are both brilliant.

He planned a surprise
For the night of their first anniversary
He taped his show just so he could be home with her
The radio was playing and,
as he walked in on her and her lover,
He heard himself saying
The last words that they ever heard ...

I always thought this would make a good country song:

All the happy couples on their way to New Orleans
Reminding me of when we got along
They're only renting time and space to fill up with their dreams
And dreams are what they'll have when they have gone

How could it be that I was born without a clue to carry on
And still it is the same now I am older
Armed with just a will and then this love for singing songs
And minding less and less if I am colder

But I have this funny ache and it's burning in my chest
And it spreads just like a fire inside my body
Is it something God left out in my spirit or my flesh
Would I be saved if I were brave and had a baby

It was never clear what would come but that's the risk and that's the test
And you were the only one so far to follow
And no one talks about when one might stop and need to rest
Or how long you sit alone before you stop looking back
It's like you're waiting for Godot
And then you pick your sorry ass up off the street and
Go...

And what the hell is this? Who made this bloody mess?
And someone always answers like a martyr
Is it something you should know, did you never do your best
Would you be saved if you were brave and just tried harder

So now I ride the ought one thirtyfive to New Orleans
I float a mile above life's toil and trouble
A thousand lonely lifetimes I still wait and then go on
A clown to entertain the happy couples

:boohoo:
I caught you smiling at me again
out of the corner of my eye.
It isn't easy when I have to pretend
that you're just another guy.
I can't let anyone ever know.
I can't let my feelings show.

Cause you're the one I dream about,
when I fall asleep at night.
And you're the one I think about
when he turns out the light
Now it's so hard to live without you're love to hold me tight.
How I wish that he was you tonight.

Whenever you are close to me my heart
just won't be still.
I hope that no one else can see the
way you make me feel.
If only I didn't have to hide all this loving I
hold inside

There's a reason why
you can look up every night
and every star in heaven's in it's place
There's a reason why
the full moon pulls the tide
and the waves roll into a shore that always waits

And just like them
baby you belong
baby you belong
Nothin's ever been so meant to be
or ever felt so right to me
Every single part of me believes
baby you belong
oh baby you belong
There really is no mystery
i think anyone can see
That baby you belong
with me

There's a voice inside
and i heard it promise me
When you came along
Id know you by heart
like a familiar song
Every word is telling me
that the time has finally come
Now here you are

And i know for sure
oh, baby you belong
baby you belong
Nothin's ever been so meant to be
or ever felt so right to me
Every single part of me believes
baby you belong
oh, baby you belong
There really is no mystery
I think anyone can see
that baby you belong

Like the sun belongs up in the morning sky
and for at least another million reasons why

Baby you belong
oh, baby you belong
Nothin's ever been so meant to be
or ever felt so right to me

Baby you belong
oh, baby you belong
Nothin's ever been so meant to be
or ever felt so right to me
Every single part of me believes that
baby you belong
oh baby, baby, baby you belong
There really is no mystery
I think anyone can see
That baby you belong
with me

Baby you belong with me

"Backwoods Barbie" by Dolly Parton

"I grew up poor and ragged, just a simple country girl.
I wanted to be pretty more than anything in the world,
like Barbie or the models in the Fredricks' catalog.
From rags to wishes in my dreams I could have it all.
I'm just a backwoods Barbie, too much makeup, too much hair.
Don't be fooled by thinkin' that the goods are not all there.
Don't let these false eyelashes lead you to believe that
I'm as shallow as I look 'cause I run true and deep.

I've always been misunderstood because of how I look.
Don't judge me by the cover 'cause I'm a real good book.
So read into it what you will, but see me as I am.
The way I look is just a country girl's idea of glam.

I'm just a backwoods Barbie in a push-up bra and heels.
I might look artificial, but where it counts I'm real.
And I'm all dolled up and hopin' for a chance to prove my worth,
And even backwoods Barbie's get their feelings hurt.

I'm just a backwoods Barbie, too much makeup, too much hair.
Don't be fooled by thinkin' that the goods are not all there.
Yes, I can see where I could be misjudged upon first glance;
But even backwoods Barbie's deserve a second chance.
I'm just a backwoods Barbie just asking for a chance,
just a backwoods Barbie."

I love the way you stand in my way
You won't move 'til you get a kiss
and how you tell me that
my name tastes so sweet on your lips
I love the way you hold me with your eyes
Hold me so tight that i can't move
It's like everything i've ever known is a lie
and you're the simple truth

Is it a dream
or is it real?
All i know is
you make me feel so beautiful
beautiful
beautiful
You make me feel so beautiful
beautiful
beautiful
You make me feel so
beautiful

I love how soft you touch my skin
like you're touching the wings of a butterfly
I wish we could just lock ourselves away in a room
where there was no such thing as time
I've never let anyone get this close
I've always been afraid
but you break down every wall and yet i feel so safe

Every part of who i am
is so in love cause what i have is beautiful
beautiful
beautiful
You make me feel so beautiful
beautiful
beautiful
You make me feel so beautiful
beautiful
beautiful

I was stealing kisses from a boy
now I’m begging affection from a man
in my house dress,
don’t you know who I am,
don’t you know who I am.
Standing in your kitchen.

Miranda Lambert time:

"That boy's like a sore in your mouth, that you just have to bite"

- "Guilty in Here"

"I should have held on to my pride, I should have never let you lie
I guess you got what you deserved, I guess I should've been more like her"

- "More Like Her"

Tammy Wynette

Shelby Lynne too apparently, because it's a line in "Alive And Well", a song from her Soft Talk album.

That same song marked the reunion of Tammy Wynette and Billy Sherrill back in 1986. He was supposed to start producing her albums again around that time, but the one single was the only thing that ever materialized for whatever reason. It's included on the European version of her Anniversary: 20 Years of Hits collection. I picked up a cassette copy of it in Ireland back in 1987. For some reason, it wasn't included on the US release of the album. Eventually it appeared on CD on 1990's Best Loved Hits and later in 1992 on the Tears of Fire boxed set.

Shelby Lynne recorded several Tammy Wynette songs including 'Talking To Myself Again', 'This Time I Almost Made It' and 'Alive and Well'. But I was referencing Shelby Lynne with my lyric.

I laughed when I first looked at the pictures in her book
The way she colored everything all wrong
But this chill came over me as I realized that she
Had colored things as she felt they belong
She colored mommy blue with brown eyes crying
She made our house as grey as the dawn
She made the sun as black as night as if to say it had no light
But she didn't color daddy cause he's gone
