Kristy Lee Cook's Album = Success?

All things country!

Postby Brady on August 5th, 2008, 12:19 pm

Check out this blurb about Kristy Lee Cook's new album from Country Standard Time:
Produced by songwriter Brett James, "Why Wait" is a 10-track collection spearheaded by the first single, "15 Minutes of Shame." The song is at country radio now, and is available as a digital single at online retailers beginning Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Other tracks include Cook's version of Lee Greenwood's 1984 Top 10 hit, "God Bless the USA," which she performed on Idol, as well as "Not Tonight," a song that James and Chris Lindsey co-wrote with Carrie Underwood.

"God Bless the USA" and a Carrie Underwood co-write sounds like the ultimate pander fest to me.

This album is being rushed. Since this will be the FIRST time an American Idol contestant has released an album before the winner does, It also looks like they're trying to capitalize on her 15 minutes of fame before it's up. I HATE "God Bless The USA" even if it means I'll be deemed unpatriotic.

Yes her God Bless the USA was pandering and had her all but twirling sparklers.

As for her album being a sucess, I'm going to quote the all wise and knowing 8-ball on this one: All signs point to no.

dude, but if tomorrow all the things were gone you'd worked for in your life, and you had to start all over with just your children adn your life, wouldn't thank your lucky stars that you've living here today, where the flag still stands for freedom, and they can't take that away?

I'm just saying.

my favorite thing about that song is how Lee Greenwood is apparently a total jerk. Awesome.

He's also ready to 'whore' that song out to make a nickel or two.

The best part of "God Bless The USA" on American Idol was the sheer naked desperation of it. The woman had been on the verge of getting booted out numerous times, so choosing the ultimate suck-up song was a stroke of genius. If she got voted out after singing that, the terrorists would have won for sure. That doesn't mean I want to hear it ever again (I have been scarred by a 5th grade teacher making our class sing that damn song repeatedly for weeks on end when it first came out).

I don't have high hopes for her long-term success. Once you get past her hardcore Idol fans (and how many can there be, realistically), I can't imagine her recording more than 1 CD before ending up on Big Machine Records with all the other Idol rejects.

Sam G,

Big Machine Records doesn't have ONE idol 'reject.' The only "reality" contestant they have ever signed (as of today) is Kate and Kasey Coppola from "Can You Duet." Sony Nashville (the BMG moniker is going the way of the dodo with Sony's buyout), has signed the female AI contestants while Lyric Street has 3 male "rejects." Lofton Creek has Carmen Rasmussen, another idol "reject."

Lyric Street, that was the one I was thinking of. My mistake!

i'm not sure how many "hard core" fans she had in the first place...since this season of idol had all of their performances on itunes as soon as they could record them, it should have been a big flashing sign to "Sony Entertainment" that KLC didn't have much support. ( She never had huge sales of her singles compared to others of her season)

Does the fact that the album was recorded in four days reflect any form of desperation to get her out there before she drifts off into the proverbial mist? Kristy is good looking and marketable, but lacks the charm and personality of Kellie Pickler and the vocal ability of Carrie Underwood. Arista Nashville re-signed her, but how long do they have to push her before the next season of American Idol starts, before Taylor Swift drops her next record and before Jessica Simpson takes the role of token-disposable-blond? I've no problem with what American Idol has brought to the table in Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler, but KLC is just pushing it a little for me.

Yeah, apparently David Cook is taking his sweet time on the record -- haven't heard a word on it yet

And Kristy's album has been released, it charted at #8 on Country and #49 on Billboard (which isn't bad for zilcho promotion)... and "15 Minutes of Shame" hasn't charted all the well either -- I think she should've made a music video for it, that would probably have helped her out

I can def agree that it was rushed

This album will get more promotion soon. she's just off of the American Idol tour. My guess is they will do a video now. The song is still gaining traction too. Still, it was pretty rushed.

Yes, that's true :D

I didn't like her much on American Idol, but I think she has some potential -- unlike the other recent AmIdol country artist Phil Stacey

Nope: Clay Aiken (season 2's runner-up) released his debut album 2 months before the winner of that season, Ruben Studdard

So, this would be the second time that has happened

I also think JKellie Pickler's first came out before that year's Idol winner.

Kristy Lee is the blandest sounding singer I think I have ever heard.

I think Photocrap's album parody explains it all:

Yes, I think it did too

And the funny thing was, Small Town Girl was rushed too - but it was an amazing album -- Kristy's fell short of the mark

I looked at the list of reviews for Pickler's last album and most were 4/5 and a couple were even 4.5/5
