Brooks & Dunn To Split Up

All things country!

Postby indulgedcountrymusic on August 11th, 2009, 8:14 pm

I was referring to Kix Brooks... not Ronnie Dunn when I made my comment about Pickler not needing a crowd-working "lackie" (which is the reason for him being in the duo)

Pickler's "I Wonder" stomps all over everything "compelling" that Brooks & Dunn has ever released. Her performance of "I Wonder" on the CMAs was received with a standing ovation for a reason. She moved me and most everyone else. Its straight from her heart.

It makes me really sad to imagine all she's been through

It's not a patch on Believe, Neon Moon, You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone, etc.

When she has a song as compelling as You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone or South of Santa Fe, get back to me.
I'll take a Kix Brooks solo album over Kellie Pickler any day.
And I'll take Ronnie Dunn solo concert over a Kellie Pickler gig any day.

I'm right there with ya. Personally, I think Ronnie Dunn is the best male vocalist of his generation. He can nail a country ballad to the wall, and when he gets ahold of a good one, he's peerless.

I'd nominate Gary Allan as close to on his level, but aside from that, I'm with you. Ronnie Dunn is a magic man.

We're going to keep telling each other that. You can keep telling yourself how great Picker is. I'm pretty sure you're the only one listening anyway.

Its pretty clear myself that I'm a Pickler fan and there's no changing that. Likewise, you're a Brooks & Dunn fan. So this discussion just won't work.

Its still a fact thought that at least Pickler can work a crowd without having a lackie do it for her, something Dunn has to do because as I've heard some of his fans say even he isn't very "entertaining" and that Brooks does that for him

Which was what started this argument....

Have you ever saw Brooks & Dunn live, Indulged? The fact is that Ronnie Dunn doesn't need to run all over the stage - or for anyone else to for that matter - to entertain a crowd. He's the kind of talented singer that entertains us with just his voice, same as George Strait. This discussion is pretty laughable since we're actually and seriously comparing Kellie Pickler to Ronnie Dunn.

You're such a dumbass, and your "matter-of-fact" writing style you've developed is extremely off-putting. When you're such a know-nothing country fan, please at least pepper your nonsense posts with "14-year old girly boy" opinion and bias disclaimers. And trying to get into worthwhile debates about musical merit when you haven't a damn clue just makes you look foolish, so I'd try putting an end to that.

Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer went through a lot worse and don't use it as a selling point to cover their singing. Of course, they can sing.

I had never even thought of that, but yes they did. Their parents didn't 'abandon' them in the home of a loving grandmother either. Shelby and Allison watched as their father shot their mother in the driveway of their home, and then turned the gun on himself. Shelby Lynne was 17 and her little sister was only 13 at the time. I don't think the stories even compare. But you never saw either of them 'selling' that story on national TV - and someone would surely buy it if they did.

Pickler has definitely milked that sob story for more than it was worth. I wonder how much more mileage she expects to get out of it.

The problem with Pickler is, even though I know the story behind I Wonder is true, I feel it in her performance. If Miranda Lambert sang that song, I'd believe it, even though I know it isn't true for her, because she's a committed and compelling vocalist, whereas Pickler always sounds like a girl playing at whatever emotion the song requires.

And that was only one chapter of the story. And, frankly, when Allison writes and sings about it she is a lot better and more passionate than Kellie every could be:

Honestly, American Idol trains people to milk sob stories- it's how they pick most of the finalists that make it through. The producers place their plants everywhere and focus only on them to give them a good chance of winning and create the producer's desired outcome.

Pickler got her fame in an environment that encourages sob stories, so it's not entirely her fault that it's being milked. I bet she has no say on the matter.
