To Our Fans:

After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have
agreed as a duo that it's time call it a day. This ride has been
everything and more than we could ever have dreamed .... We owe it all
to you, the fans. If you hear rumors, don't believe them, it's just
time.

We will release our #1's and then some" on September 8th and come see
you all one more time in 2010, with The Last Rodeo Tour (dates to be
announced).

It sounds as though they might be planning solo careers rather than actually retiring.

The difference between a Brooks & Dunn album and a Ronnie Dunn record is negligible at best...

I have to agree that from the message it just sounds like they are going their seperate ways - not retiring -- and I have agree not much difference between a Ronnie Dunn album and a Brooks and Dunn album....

Both guys are still relatively young, so why would they retire? Kix Brooks can always form a supergroup with Art Garfunkel and Andrew Ridgley.

I would have been sadder about this 10 years ago.

I don't think we'll be hearing much from Kix except for the Weekly Country Music Countdown on Sunday mornings.

I thought the same thing about the Judds when they called it quits, but Wynonna went off in a much different direction as a solo artist, so who knows?

Probably hear more from Kix as a song writer and a occasional duet partner for some up and coming person....

This is sad news to me. I've been a fan of Brooks & Dunn since I started listening to country music back in the early 90s. I still contend that Ronnie Dunn has one of the best voices in contemporary country music, but with his age, he may not be able to break into the mainstream with a solo single. Even if he doesn't see a lot of commercial success, I would be very interested in hearing a solo album from Ronnie. Kix Brooks never appealed to me very much as a vocalist or a performer.

It's going to be hard for Ronnie Dunn as a solo artist to top anything that Brooks & Dunn did.

I hear Kix Brooks is going to form a new duo with Kellie Pickler to be known as Kix & Pix. ;)

From a sales stand-point, that's definitely true. And from an industry recognizition stand-point, it's also true. Brooks & Dunn came on the scene just as The Judds were on their way out. And now with Sugarland as the obvious front-runner for country duos, Brooks & Dunn either have to pass the torch or struggle through years of declining success. I don't blame them for choosing the former. But I also think Ronnie can (and probably will) give us an album of smart, engaging solid country music in the near future - and that album could well be better than a Brooks & Dunn record in my opinion. Time will tell though.

Now that would be heartbreaking... Pickler knows how to work a crowd and doesn't need a lackie with a guitar to do it for her

You're right. Ronnie Dunn would be a better match for her. At least that way there'd be someone with some actual musical ability on stage.

I was hoping the split-custody deal with Reba would kick in now.

Probably for the best... their last two singles, especially this new one they're sending to radio now, have been real bad. I'll definitely be interested to hear any solo work from Ronnie though.

When Picker can deliver a song with a tenth of the commitment or skill that Ronnie Dunn has on worst track, get back to me.
When she has a song as compelling as You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone or South of Santa Fe, get back to me.
I'll take a Kix Brooks solo album over Kellie Pickler any day.
And I'll take Ronnie Dunn solo concert over a Kellie Pickler gig any day.

I'm right there with ya. Personally, I think Ronnie Dunn is the best male vocalist of his generation. He can nail a country ballad to the wall, and when he gets ahold of a good one, he's peerless.
