Emery, Gill and Tillis Bestowed With Hall Of Fame Honors

- Peter Cooper has a synopsis of the Country Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Ralph Emery, Vince Gill, and Mel Tillis.
- Asked is he still considers himself a country artist, Gary Allan responded:
“I definitely feel like the spirit of what I do is country music,” he says. “I can think back to when I was 14 and saw the Highwaymen tour. That was a turning point for me. That was when country music turned into rock ‘n’ roll for me. It turned cool. I wanted to be that guy.
“We couldn’t find Hank Williams anymore on the radio, but the Stones still talk about Hank Williams, the honesty of what he does,” he says. “To me, when I turn on country radio, I have to leave it on for five or six minutes to see if it’s on the right station. I don’t have to cater to a style. I carved out my own niche. You can do what you do even if it’s not exactly what’s on the radio.”

- The Johnny Cash Flower Pickin’ Festival in Starkville, Mississippi is fast approaching. The event will take place next weekend to pardon Johnny Cash and will feature a performance by Marty Stuart. Check out Pardon Johnny Cash for more details.
- Humorous anecdote from the latest Hazel Smith column on Carrie Underwood.
She’s not the friendliest person, by no stretch of the imagination. Matter of fact, when I was first introduced to Carrie, she had the most pitiful, limpest handshake I’d ever shook. “You’re gonna be a star, girlfriend,” I said, “And you have to shake hands like this,” and I gave her hand a ‘girlie’ politician’s squeeze.
- In an article discussing which politicians certain country music singers support I found it interesting that Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s real names are Samuel and Audrey McGraw. Of course, this is probably old news for many of you.
- Ryan Bingham tearing it up at The Saxon Pub. (audio quality isn’t very good)
- Randy Rogers, Cory Morrow, and their incredulous looks joined Willie Nelson during his set for a medley of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”, “I’ll Fly Away” and “Amazing Grace” this past Saturday night in Dallas, TX. That would have been a nice one to see, indeed.
- Watch the induction ceremony for Josh Turner into the Grand Ole Opry.
