Elizabeth Cook Is One Heck Of A Clogger And Women Sing About Revenge
- Chris Cagle has been in the studio working on his next project. His last Top 5 hit came in 2003, so hopefully he can deliver on this one.
- In a move that is bound to alienate some of his fans, Darryl Worley will be appearing nude in the July 2007 issue of Playgirl magazine. Jason Meadows will also be appearing shirtless. UPDATE: Here’s another source that says Worley will be keeping his pants on.
- Chet Flippo has a short Q&A with John Anderson. Anderson talks about writing with Lionel Delmore, the first time he met John Rich, and his reaction to being called “this generation’s George Jones.”
- Ronnie Dunn on Reba McEntire’s duet project:
“She started it last year,” Ronnie says. “We were at dinner and she said, ‘I’m gonna do a duets record,’ and I said, ‘Well, all right.’ She goes, ‘And I want you to sing one with me,’ and I went, ‘That’s cool, I’d love to do that,’ and she goes, ‘But I want you to write it,’ and I went, ‘Only if you write it with me.’
- On September 18 Emmylou Harris will be releasing an 80-song box set consisting 4 discs of mostly unreleased material.
- Michael Metivier from PopMatters gives Robbie Fulks double-live album, Revenge!, a 7/10 rating.
- San Angelo LIVE! has a Q&A with Randy Rogers about his acoustic tour with Wade Bowen and what it’s been like to receive national attention.
You’ve said in an interview that Country Music is still about “loving, losing, leaving, and drinking.” Do you have—or plan—any off-the-wall songs, like about food, or anything of that nature?
That’s a good question…like Guy Clark, who has that song “Texas Cookin’ ”; he’s a legendary Texas singer-songwriter…[I don’t write any lyrics that are] off-the-wall, like I said earlier in that story you read. I keep things similar to traditional things that people can relate to. I can’t think of a topic I could write about that someone wouldn’t be able to relate to.
- The Tennessean has an introduction piece to Jon Langford’s country music art that will be on display in Marty Stuart’s Sparkle & Twang exhibit, along with TAG Art Gallery in downtown Nashville. Follow the link to see a nice Johnny Cash piece.
- For women singers, “music’s new seven-letter word is revenge.”
- Another article from The Tennessean asks “Is country big enough for Big & Rich?”
Spanning everything from church-bred soul to barnyard rap to metallic twang, Big & Rich’s new album isn’t likely to sway their critics. Their fiddle-and-steel-ripened cover of AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long” certainly won’t earn them points, even if early reports from the road suggest that the group’s fans love it.
- Amber Waves of Twang shares an Elizabeth Cook concert review with us and claims that “Cook is also one heck of a clogger.”
- And lastly, Jessica wrote in to let us know that Josh Turner’s Cracker Barrel album, Live at the Ryman, comes out on July 3rd–mark your calendars.

Merle Haggard at the Ryman Auditorium: Of the Haggard classics, “Silver Wings,” “The Way I Am” and crowd-favorite “I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink” were performed with confident ease while “Kern River” was sung with inspired tenderness and “Back to Earth,” from 2007’s Last of the Breed, contained more than a trace of Willie’s nasally twang.

How many articles are there talking about the female revenge? It’s an old recycled theme throughout country music and old recycled stories being brought up because two females sing songs about tearing up jack. The only difference, the Idol gets overplayed whereas the Star gets underpaid with radio stations programmers afraid to play the song but the same theme as the overplayed song. Give me a break…
I’m still wondering why Darryl Worley still is in the music business. Maybe taking off his shirt, yet again, he thinks he will gain new fans. Leave it on please and keep it with the music. Roy Acuff and other legends passed on would roll over in their graves.

I think the female revenge song is getting a little over-hyped now as well.
Also, it’s interesting to note that Worley isn’t the first country star to appear in the magazine. From the listed artists in the articles, Aaron Tippin kind of caught me off guard. He doesn’t seem like the type to do something like that.

oh, he’s the type alright. if he’s a washed-up country star looking for publicity, then he’ll do it. especially a ’star’ from the 90s. can’t get a hit? pull out the t & a!! or d, as the case may be. :)

Brody thanks for the plug of Amber Waves of Twang. I appreciate it. It really was a great show.
I returned the favor by linking to the Big & Rich review Jim did.
Thanks again!
