  • Filming began yesterday for Dwight Yoakam’s first single from his upcoming Dwight Sings Buck album. The video for “Close Up the Honky Tonks” will be directed by… Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit fame. After watching an advance copy of a movie directed by Dred, Dwight says he was blown away. Apparently the two hit it off and Fred wants Dwight to act in his next movie.
  • If I’m interpreting this correctly, Macy’s holds an annual music and style event called Glamorama. This year’s Glamorama took place in Chicago and had appearances from a few members of the MuzikMafia.

The highlight of the show took place when shirtless male models danced onstage to Big and Rich’s “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy,” as the theater’s audience hooted, hollered and whipped out cell-phone cameras.

I have nothing else to add.

  • Fifteen songwriters have been nominated for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Two nominees from the songwriter category and one from the songwriter/artist category will be inducted on October 14.
  • Speaking of hall of fames, the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame welcomed Red Steagall, Bob Luman and Johnny Rodriguez into their ranks.
  • Willie Nelson’s Last of the Breed touring buddies, Merle Haggard and Ray price, have been added to the Farm Aid lineup. Other additions include: Billy Joe Shaver, Jimmy Sturr, Paula Nelson, Danielle Evin, Jessie Lenat and Pauline Reese.
  • Miranda Lambert says she gets a kick out of the fact that so many people assume she’s the bad girl that she plays in her songs.

The next step, Lambert says, is to convince people that there’s more to her than just her rabble-rousing image because, while she loves that her strident, take-no-guff persona has resonated so strongly with her fans and critics, she hopes that they’ll start paying more attention to the introspective side of her songwriting.

She also says she doesn’t think she’ll ever get tired of talking about guns.

  • An article over on the Music City Syndicate covers the rising popularity of artists performing at private corporate events. The artists don’t like to talk about how much they make, but a partner in a company that books corporate events says that a typical act earns about $20,000 a show–sometimes more if they have name recognition.
  • Everybody has stories, but not everybody has a story about hanging out and drinking beer with Kris Kristofferson. Naman Crowe does. His story takes us all the way back to 1973, the height of Kristofferson’s career, and paints the picture of a man who isn’t all that different from you and me.

“With all your success and all the movies you’re going to be making, what would you do if you woke up someday and realized that you could never write another love song?” I asked.

“I’d slit my throat,” he said without hesitation and looking me straight in the eyes.

Good stuff. (via the always delectable Take Country Back)

  • Update: The upcoming Gary Allan album has a name and a release date: Living Hard and October 23rd.
