I dunno, the quotes from Hillman that Useted embeds in his review seem right on the money to me. I’ll have to pick up the new book.

Luke Bryan single: Zero substance. Cliched. Mindless drivel. I give it an F.

Eric Banister interviewed John Einarson and reviewed the book last November over at the neglected (sadly) Music Tomes blog.

Hillman also praises Parsons all over the book. It doesn’t really come across as mean-spirited, unless you go in with the idea that any criticism is mean-spirited by definition.
Also, I’d love it if more people got to hear Alecia Nugent.

I’ve been to the Riverfront concerts before (at $12 a day) and loved them. Wish I lived there, I’d do it again. But even with free shows, a weeks hotel expense is more than I can spare right now.

Martina’s wine better be damn good because it sure doesn’t come cheap at all – $60 a bottle!

When I saw Chris Hillman and the Desert Rose Band perform last fall Chris had nothing but nice things to say about Gram Parsons from the stage. In fact a couple of times Chris said his days writing songs with Gram in the late 60’s were the most creative and productive of his life.
If I ever made it to Nashville and Fan Fair I think I’d just stay at the Riverfront Stage. I like most of the artists that perform there but not the Top 20 types featured at the big nightly stadium shows. That Saturday line-up is mighty impressive!
Looks like I’ll have to start searching for a cheap copy of Wayne Hancock’s new album. Sounds like my kind of country music…

I’ll leave the token Timothy B. Schmit comment. I love his stuff and can’t wait to hear some new solo music from him.

Well, yeah, of course.

Interesting tidbit from the Bracebridge Examiner:
Whispering’ Bill Anderson is currently writing songs with Brad Paisley again, and American Idol winner and Country Music Entertainer of the Year Carrie Underwood.

Northy, here’s a sentence from Ashley Monroe’s latest MySpace blog you should enjoy where Ashley is blogging about recent songwriting sessions with Vince Gill:
“Then on Monday myself, Carrie, and Vinny sat down and wrote two more songs….and had such a wonderful time.. I was just taking all of this in this morning and I have so much to be thankful for.”

The best thing financially that’s ever happened to Ashley was getting her composition “Flat On The Floor” on Carrie’s last album. I hope that history repeats itself on Carrie’s next album so that Carrie’s dedicated fanbots like Northy can help support Ashley! (lol)
PS – In which marketplace are they hoping for Alecia Nugent to be a “breakout success”? Isn’t she already doing well in bluegrass land? Hmmm…

Rick, Ashley is also writing with Miranda Lambert some, and last time I heard, she had a cut or two on Mirandas new album. So thats pretty exciting for her. I hate to see such a talented and genuine person go so unnoticed.

What are all you whiny bitches going to say when Carrie records and releases a #1 written with Bill Anderson? ha!
April 22, 2009 at 6:07 pm Permalink
We’ll wonder why Bill Anderson is squandering his talent.

Thats alot of venom there, nencia. And Ill refer to what Bob McDill said when someone asked him about how he justified having “Gone Country” licensed to be in a commercial….Cha Ching!

Carrie’s rabid fanbots remind me of the cyborg terminator Cameron in the “Sarah Connor Chronicles” Fox TV series when Cameron’s personality processor chip began to short out….(lol)

Off Topic: Dan Huff Alert! All you Dan Huff fans will enjoy Alison Bonaguro’s article about Dan at the CMT.com blog site. It kind of sums up Dan’s production style in these comments:
“This from a man who didn’t even listen to country music when he was growing up in Nashville. His circuitous career path led him out of Nashville to Los Angeles, through years as a session guitarist for rock bands to eventually playing on a Shania Twain album.”
Wow, no wonder Dan is so successful and cranking out # 1 mainstream country albums these days as his background prepared him perfectly for today’s Top 40 country marketplace! (lol)

I dunno, dissing the great Bill Anderson for daring to write with Carrie Underwood by saying he’s “squandering his talent” or implying that he’s only doing it for a buck seems no less venomous to me.

Not a rabid fan but there sure is a lot of bitching going on around here. All you old fogies need to relax a little don’tcha think? Country music is evolving so quit getting your peepaw panties in a bunch all the time.

Rick,
She’s on the verge of helping Randy Travis gain his first #1 single in years and a possible song writer Grammy nomination so why wouldn’t Bill Anderson, Ashley Monroe & Vince Gill want to write with her. As for being a fanbot…I’m a little old for that sort of thing. LOL!

You can read a somewhat more complicated and emotional take on Parsons by Hillman as he’s interviewed on the subject in he current, second, No Depression bookazine.

Stormy…maybe Carrie powers are reading what people are saying. Perhaps they know she does have a voice but needs to find that good written song. Perhaps that’s why they contacted Bill Anderson.

Vicki: I have too much already good music to spend time waiting for Carrie to get good.
