Digital Dolly Parton Wants You To Give Her A Play
- Despite their musical prowess, Bruce Robison and his wife Kelly Willis like to keep their careers separate for the sake of their own sanity. John Goodspeed says they “could portray the everyday American married couple — if the average family had four children under age 6.” Willis mentions that their four year-old twins write songs together all the time.
Seeing music through the children’s eyes is reawakening a passion Robison has not felt since he was a teenager.
“I used to listen to pop music and hate it,” he said. “Then we were at the beach and my daughter and another girl were dancing to Fergie and Gwen Stefani. Now when I hear it on the radio, I go oh — there’s that song the girls were dancing to.
“Now I’m open to different kinds of music and it’s like this stuff is brand new.
- The Gobblers Knob has a post up about Justin Frazell, the host of a feature show for 99.5 The Wolf in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Frazell’s show, The Front Porch, runs on Sunday nights and showcases the best up and coming talent in the Red Dirt scene. Aside from music, Frazell has a passion for helping babies that are born prematurely. For the second year in a row he’s set up “Pickin’ for Preemies,” a benefit featuring acoustic sets from Kevin Fowler, Jason Boland, Radney Foster, Brandon Rhyder, Todd Fritsch, Darren Kozelsky, Josh Grider and Adam Hood. - Dolly Parton’s new single, “Better Get To Livin’”, from her upcoming Backwoods Barbie album debuted on country radio and iTunes yesterday.
Parton said, “I put it on my own label because many of the majors really didn’t want me because of my age, thinking I was over. But I feel different about that. I figured the major labels are pretty much a thing of the past anyway, kind of like they thought I was.
I guess you could says she’s still got her spunk.
- Overflowing with accomplished musicians, Lyle Lovett’s It’s Not Big It’s Large album pulled in a four out five rating from This Is Texas Music.
- Although it doesn’t directly relate to country music, NPR has a cool article on some research that California scientists have been conducting to find people with a remarkable talent called absolute pitch.
Most people can identify a note on a piano, but there will be some people who hear a note, and without even thinking about it, they will know that it was A above middle C — at least if the piano is properly tuned.
Dennis Drayna is a geneticist at the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. He says people with absolute pitch can identify notes on a piano the same way most of us can identify colors.
- I remember hearing the song “Can You Hear Me When I talk to You”, but I didn’t know the singer was only twelve years old. Ashley Gearing, now 16, broke a 46 year-old record held by Brenda Lee when the song entered Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart. She was recently signed to Curb Records.
Curb Records Sr. VP/General Manager, Dennis Hannon, said, “Ashley is a triple threat: young, talented and beautiful, I think she’s got a long successful career ahead of her and I’m thrilled that she’s part of our Curb family.”
I don’t doubt that she deserves the deal, but isn’t it kind of weird to throw in age and beauty when announcing reasons for signing an artist?

Seems like a “triple threat” traditionally means you have three talents, not that three positive adjectives can be applied to you. That said, Ashley is in fact very talented.

ok, i have to say it. dolly parton is looking more and more like a rodeo clown all the time. sad to say, the boobage doesn’t make up for it anymore. this is a truly sad day in america. i weep for this great country.
