Yeah, because we all know it’s only those dirty liberals who would ever dare to espouse their politics beliefs on stage or in song. How dare they! Dirty liberals.

I COULD NOT agree with Trace Adkins more. Preach on Brother. Not even liberals….but conservatives too….When I go to a concert, I want to hear that Artist sing. I dont want to hear that Artist’s thought on the Iraq War

Expressing a point of view is one thing, but some artists really go over the top — like when Barbra Streisand had an entire skit in her concert making fun of President Bush or when Linda Rondstadt would sing “Desperado” and dedicate it to Michael Moore. Or when Madonna starts shouting “F–k Sarah Palin” at her concerts.

Go Chuck go!!!! That’s better than winning the lottery.

Rick: Taylor butchered “Drive.” And is it just me, or does that clip from CMT Giants just emphasize that the current lot of country stars is untalented? Such a unremarkable performance of a worthless song.

Exactly. This is quite obvious on her debut album (it’s the album’s greatest strength and also its greatest weakness). I must say, however, that I am quite jealous of Chuck Wicks. I’ll gladly sing sissy songs to win Julianne’s heart.

You have to give Brad/George/Dierks some credit. After all, this song is about innuendo, not vocal ability.

And I don’t attend Trace Adkins concerts because I really don’t need to be smashed over the head with the idea that I am an object only as valuable as I am appealing to men in general and him in particular. But ah yes, that’s not politics, that’s socialization, so I guess its okay.

And Razor, I would have a problem with Madonna, but then again, in Trace’s world view Sarah Palin’s whole problem is either going to be that she needs to get laid or she is on the rag. So Madonna and Trace are likely in agreement.

Trace Adkins is a hypocrite. I saw him on some red carpetinterview dismiss gay marriage. And I read a review of one of his concerts were he again dimissed gay marriage. He doesn’t want to hear liberal views but he wants everyone to think he is a “Real American”. The sad fact is that he is a real American in many ways. Ill-informed and obtuse to the very idea of freedom of speech.
I am a very conservative person. I too don’t want to hear the political views of artists,especially when I have paid to hear them sing or act. But Adkins goes on a very conservative political talk show, tells his very bias opinion, and then acts as though his thinking is the right way to think. If he or Streisand were really smart people they would leave the thinking to the audience and get on with the show.

The real problem is that Adkins is selling an image. That ” I-Am-A-Real-American-Man” image, as if there only one form of that type of man in America and Adkins knows that guy because he is that guy. Grow up! Adkins represents that country male singer who thinks that a deep voice and overly macho ways makes him an artist. Merle Haggard on steroids! A real artist creates a sense of story and belief in his art. And from the sounds of Adkins’ music all I can see is he looking to demean women, show who is the alpha male, and keep free speech from being free.

Since when is The O’Reilly Factor a conservative talk show?

It must have been a pretty serious day for you then, Ben. Those on the far left might consider O’Reilly to be a conservative, but the rest of us find him very moderate. Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Ingraham, and Beck are conservatives. O’Reilly is not.

That Raconteurs’ track may be the coolest thing I’ve heard all year. Brendon Benson sounded very like John Cowan of the New Grass Revival there.

You are very right Brady- I was having my lunch when I read the Adkins post and I was mad- very mad. But part of the issue is the image he is selling. While he puts down liberal artists- he is selling himself to the audience he wants to buy his music. That is why artists should keep their politics out of their performance. As Yeats wrote- ” You can’t separate the dancer from the dance.” When a performer talks politics it is always connected to their image which is connected to their imcome.

Oh and Adkins has talked about his beliefs on stage.

Stormy, a lot of Trace’s songs are chauvinistic, to be sure. But it’s a flawed comparison to compare that to Madonna’s venom-spewing over a politician she disagrees with.

Also what bugs me even more than the Trace thing is Julliane Hough. I don’t know what that girl is thinking. She has a career that is slowing down and has already been married once and she is only what, 20? She needs to get some career advice and just date for awhile until both of them can have some type of success. I think Hough’s success is more easier achieved than Wicks, I guess she will be bringing home the bread in that family.

I was actually wrong, she was only engaged but it was to a dancer named Zach Wilson.
