Entertainment reporter, Jimmy Carter tells WKKT that an inside source told him that Miranda Lambert got 7 noms vs one for Carrie Underwood because their record label had to decide who to push, and they figured Miranda needed the noms more than Carrie did at this point.

Lovett says he recently re-recorded Guy Clark’s “Anyhow, I Love You” for a forthcoming tribute album and in the process of making the song his own, he was astonished by it again and anew.
“I sat around the house playing it,” he says. “I had to pay attention to the phrasing, the way he counted the measures between verse and chorus. It’s an education.”
He also provides some sage advice about doing things that you like.

Carrie and Ben don’t hit my musical sweet spot nearly to the extent that Chip and Carrie did, but I’ll still probably buy this. Don’t understand why they re-did Big Kiss, though.

Surely it’s not that bad (and Underwood’s comment about “My Baby’s Gone” gets today’s Unintentional Humor trophy).

I should explain how, much experience shows, this “Love Hurts” thing works with Jon.
We’ve been able to skip one round, because Shawn Underwood did not say “as good as Nazareth’s pop hit version.”
Then somebody e would have gotten us to the crack about Gram Parsons and Emmylou anyway. (Or perhaps, Buddy Miller and Emmylou) as not that hot either. THEN, when somebody would say, “But, of course, the Everly Brother original’ (or even “The Roy Orbison original” which came out at the same time, minus harmonies up front) was “definitive or something, then Jon would be lurking and waiting with a version by a bluegrass outfit (it will virtually always be a bluegrass outfit) who “really” did the best version. Or the best version “for his money.”
That’s when he get to tell us how much he loves Elvis Costello.
No. See: Osborne Brothers, for instance. (On their songs of Boudleaux & Felice Bryant collection).

Well, the Osborne Brothers certainly did a fine job with “Love Hurts,” and so does my sometimes boss Sally Jones, and there are many other good ones out there, including the Everly Brothers’. But though I love many things about Ms. Harris’s music, I am not in the least a fan of the Parsons/Harris duet on this song, and the notion that it represents some kind of zenith in duet or harmony singing drives me nearly to distraction. Especially when one has the not-Porter Waggoner (sic)/Dolly Parton version of “My Baby’s Gone” in view.

And don’t forget about Catherine Britt (all of 15 at the time) doing a duet down under with Lee Kernaghan of “Love Hurts” on Lee’s “Electric Rodeo” album.I have to say its one of my favorite versions of that song.
And while I’m at it I have to say the Dead Ringer Band’s versions of Gram’s “Sin City” and Townes Van Zandt’s “If I Needed You” are also among the best versions I’ve ever heard of those songs. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oy Oy Oy! (lol)

Even though the recommendation comes from Jon, any tour with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has much to recommend it. I saw them about six years ago in Daytona Beach and despite the fact that most of them were in their 70s (or beyond), they could still swing it and bring it

Carter’s comments are nothing new with the record label politics of Nashville, but I feel for artists like Josh Turner who has a big year and receives no nominations. Oh well, they are a joke anyway, I watch for the performances.

In terms of the pickup line thing from The Boot, I love that their #9 is “Hey baby do you come here often/Hey baby now what’s your sign?” from Trace Adkins’ “Swing”. Ignoring the quality of the song for the moment, the immediate reaction of the love interest to those lines is her leaving because she considers them too stupid. And yet they’re #9 to The Boot. But I think their overall problem is they haven’t truly “listened” to any of the songs on the list, and only picked and chose pickup lines from random songs until they came up with a list of ten.
