Dale Watson Protests Release Of The Little Darlin Sessions And Willie Nelson’s Picnic Leaves Texas

  • I was excited to find out that another Dale Watson album was going to be released, unfortunately that excitement was subdued after reading that the album is being released with protest from Watson himself.

The Little Darling CD was never finished ( we cut a lot of songs but never were given the chance to correct mistakes or overdub background vocals or anything else.) i.e. We were given one run through and that was it. They wouldn’t allow any of my originals and that result is tandem to me doing Karaoke on Little Darling songs. A couple of the songs I begged not to have to sing as I really did not like them. In that regard it really was Nashville 1966. KOCH is releasing it under protest of me and Lloyd Green.

Visit Watson’s website to read more about the album and his future plans.

  • Willie Nelson is holding his annual Fourth of July picnic in the state of Washington this year, marking the first time that the event won’t be held in Texas since being founded in 1973.
  • Blake Shelton did an interview with the Associated Press in which he talks about what kind of impact his divorce had on his Pure BS album and his relationship with Miranda Lambert.

Heartbreak is a hallmark of the old-style country that Shelton holds dear, but he found it’s easier singing about other people’s pain than your own. ‘I definitely think it’s the best album that I can make, but I dang sure don’t want to go through that again to make a good album,’ Shelton said.

  • Entertainment Weekly has an online bonus to accompany their print article of Tim McGraw. Chris Willman has a fairly insightful Q&A session with McGraw in which they cover a wide variety of topics, including: touring with Faith Hill, crossover artists, his qualms with the Grammys, Kris Kristofferson, and politics.

Now, you have a song on your new album called ”Kristofferson.” Maybe he should do a song called ”Taylor Swift” and bring the whole thing full circle.
Maybe so. Kris Kristofferson can do anything he wants to! He’s a pretty impressive guy. My wife thinks he’s hot.

  • Another Q&A, this time with Bucky Covington on CMT.
  • According to The Tennessean, Toby Keith caught the “acting bug” while playing the leading role in Broken Bridges. He hopes to start making a movie every 18 months and releasing the soundtracks on his record label. Keith says he was recently offered a big time role with some big time actors, but won’t give any details. (via GAC)
  • GAC reports that Tracy Lawrence “is ready to share the darker moments in his life and career as a way to inspire others to carry on.” Lawrence plans on writing the story of his life, saying that he’s going to be upfront about his very public brushes with the law and other incidents that have made headlines over the years.

Argh! Willie, man what are you DOING?!

It’s not surprising to me that Toby Keith wants to act. He’s been acting like a country singer for years now.

RE “Acting”: And he’s been doing a great job of it; Maybe because he is one.

Did Toby threaten to put a boot in your ass if you didn’t say that?

RE “Did Toby threaten to put a boot in your ass if you didn’t say that?”:

I don’t know. If Toby finds out what you said, though, he might put one in yours.

Ha! Yeah well I’m sure he just might.

I hear Toby’s big-time movie is about this Australian rock star named Chris Gaines.

Sounds like an awesome premise for a movie, Chris. I wonder why no one has ever thought of it before.

Chris Gains a wannabe country singer from the wrong side of Nashville’s 8 Mile…

To be fair, “Broken Bridges” was every bit as good as, say, “Cool as Ice” or “Glitter.”

Wait, are you admitting to actually seeing all those movies?

Looking forward to Willie’s Picnic at the Gorge at George (Washington). It’s a beautiful place and a natural to pick of Willie wanted out of Texas. Half the people come from Seattle in Western Washington state and half come from the farming half in Eastern Washington state. It will be a ball, I’m sure.
