Brody: They had an interesting elogy to Wexler on Fresh Air today as well. Aparently he was the one who had the idea for Aretha Franklin to stop singing caberet and start singing like she used to in church.

In the studio, Wexler was a hands-on producer. Once, during a session with Charles, the tambourine player was off the beat. Wexler, in his award-winning autobiography, recalled grabbing the instrument and playing it himself.

“Who’s that?” asked Charles.

“Me,” Wexler told the blind singer.

“You got it, baby!” Charles said.

Those folks behind “Nashville at Nite” sure have great taste when it comes to the artists they select to spotlight. I wonder if they’ll be at The Rutledge next week for the Katie Armiger gig being held for her “industry supporters”?

The Darius Rucker album cover is a hoot. I must admit that when those Burger King commercials were airing on TV I had no idea who Darius was and I wasn’t impressed with his singing either. I couldn’t figure out why he was cast in that commercial…..

Since Dierks Bentley put out his own concert DVD, I think maybe only his die hard fans would go for the ACL issue. I’d much rather see the episode featuring Kathleen Edwards…..
