Crystal Shawanda Giveaway - Win an Autographed Copy of Dawn of a New Day
On August 19th, RCA Nashville will release Dawn of a New Day, the debut album from Ontario native Crystal Shawanda. The album marks the emergence of a unique singer with a fascinating history and a fantastic passion for making music. Recently, The 9513 caught up with Crystal for an exclusive interview, which will be published on Monday, August 18.
To celebrate the American release of the album, RCA Nashville has made it possible for us to offer our readers the chance to win one of three prize packs, which each include an autographed copy of Dawn of a New Day and a Crystal Shawanda poster.
Entering and winning:
Shawanda’s last name, translated, means “dawn of a new day.” To enter this sweepstakes, all you have to do is leave a comment telling us what your name–first or last–means.
And in case you need a little help, here’s a link to a website that will allow you to search for your name’s meaning.

Italian Meaning: Of Hadria, Italy
Spanish Meaning: Dark, Rich
I did some further research on the Italian meaning and Hadria is an alternative spelling for the Etruscan city that is now Adria in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. Very interesting stuff!

Michaud-The history of the Michaud name began during the middle ages in a region once know as Languedoc. The French name is derived from the ancient given name Michael, meaning one who is like God.
So I guess it would make me “a powerful ruler who is like God”.

People call me Rick ’cause I act like such a…….well, you know(lol) I’ve been told my name means dork and doofus in ancient Assyrian….
I first heard of Crystal when a song of hers titled “Bigger Than The Troubles” was included on a promo mini-CD titled “The Rising Stars of Country”. That mini-CD was included in near half a million boxes of Garnier Nutrisse hair color products and yet only a handul have turned up on ebay, meaning 99.9 % got tossed in the trash. The mini CD included songs from Ashley Monroe, Catherine Britt, Sarah Johns, & Crystal. Ashley and Catherine were subsequently released from their labels, Sarah Johns is on the back burner, and Crystal is doing well with “You Can Let Go”. Go figure…..
Its nice that “Dawn of a New Day” is getting released on CD and I look forward to getting a copy. They have been available in Crystal’s native Canada for awhile now and I would have sourced one there if necessary.

Oh, I should clarify Matu is what “Matthew” is translated into either of those languages (and what my mother calls me). Bjorke is Norwegian (of which i’m 50%)and means “Birch Place.” The funny thing is that my family’s true family name is Erikson. Yep, I’m related to the vikings (yet I’m not a Viking football fan, go figure).

Brody, when I first heard about the Garnier promo CD I went to the drug store to see how much a bottle would cost and it was something like $ 9! I waited and got one for a couple of bucks off ebay including shipping. There is one for sale now and the seller is asking $ 25! Crikey mate…..

My name is similar to ‘Shawanda’ however they mean two different things.
First of all, My first name Joni was picked out of Conway Twitty’s song “Don’t Cry Joni”. My last name, Shawana, means “Southern Thunder” however Shawana is the Europeans way of spelling it. It’s originally spelled something like Zhwaanoong ;)
