Cracker Barrel Releases Legends Live At The Opry On CD And Blake Shelton Talks Pure BS

  • Cracker Barrel is releasing five new CDs in the “Live Classics” series. The performances are from the Grand Ole Opry and contain country legends such as Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Dolly Parton and Waylon Jennings. The live shows are from the 60’s when the Opry was broadcast on radio and the CDs contain 60 performances. I’m a big fan of what Cracker Barrel has done with country music, it doesn’t hurt that they have delicious food, too.
  • One of the artists that we heard for the first time at the Gruene With Envy Awards, Adam Hood, has announced he’s doing 28 shows in 28 days. That’s a show every night in February. In addition he’ll be giving away a free private performance to the person that brings the most friends to a show as well as a signed guitar to a random person who attends one of the shows during the 28 days. Unfortunately it won’t mean much to those of you outside of Texas since only one show will be out of state.
  • Somebody is really enamored with Charlie Robison. I learned a couple of things about Charlie that I didn’t know before. I think he’s a superb songwriter and performer, I only wish he put out more music.
  • Jason Aldean spent most of January in the studio recording his second album and will be releasing a single to radio this week titled Johnny Cash. My interest is definitely piqued by the title of his latest single. I think his first album was a huge success, and a mighty good album that’s worth listening to if you haven’t already.
  • One of the new releases we didn’t get around to reviewing this week was Bill Kirchen’s Hammer Of The Honky-Tonk Gods, but the Austin Chronicle has a little snippet about the album and they give it two-and-a-half stars.
  • Blake Shelton has a new album set to be released April 3rd and he’s decided to title it “Pure BS,” because it means a few different things, but mainly it’s his initials and he says the album is all about him and his best creative abilities.

“That’s my favorite album title I’ve had so far,” says Shelton, who will perform Friday night at the Pepsi-Cola Roadhouse in Burgettstown. “I’ve wanted to use my initials for some kind of promotion forever. … I finally put my foot down and said, ‘We’re doing it this time.’

I totally know where Blake is coming from wanting to use BS in the title. Both Brady and I have the initials BSV and we liked the BS so much that we named our first design company BS Squared Designs (we used Squared because there’s two of us). It goes without saying that that company didn’t go anywhere.
