Country Music Letterpress Art

Letterpress printing often times produces beautiful results in the hands of the right people. I have a basic understanding of how the process works, but haven’t ever had the chance to delve any deeper into the subject. I’m always on the lookout for letterpress cards and posters because of the tactile results as well as the aesthetic appeal, more specifically, I enjoy the pieces with wood type and dime novel/pulp magazine appearances.

Because of my fascination with this printing process and my love for country music I’ve always wanted to visit Hatch Show Print in Tennessee. They’ve produced posters for some of the biggest names in country music, including: Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Marty Robbins. If this type of art appeals to you as well, then definitely check out some of the pieces they have for sale in their online store. I’d love to have some of these to hang on my wall, or else just to have as souvenirs.

Another letterpress printer I recently discovered, Yee-Haw Industries, also has some stunning work. I’ve found about five posters/prints on their online store that I’m seriously thinking about ordering. They also hail from Tennessee.

Do you know of any other places, aside from artists’ websites, that sell country music art/posters?

Those posters are so cool! I gotta check and see if they have one with Willie Nelson on it.

you can find a nice variety of posters (some Hatch) on ebay.

Keith Netler does Hank III posters. Great stuff! http://www.neltnercreative.com/

I went to Hatch last October when I went to the AMA conference. Go man, it’s very cool.

Hey Linda, I didn’t see any Willie when I was browsing through stuff.

Baron – I don’t listen to much Hank III, but if I did I’d shell out the dough for this one: http://www.neltnercreative.com/posters/art.php?id=18

The rest of them are pretty sweet as well, except I’m not diggin’ all the skulls.

I have a Hatch Show Print poster of Pam Tillis’ 1994-1995 Sweetheart’s Dance tour in the living room of my apt. I just think it’s the coolest-looking thing. The history of the art is absolutely amazing. Thanks for these links!

Yeah, Hank III really plays up the Country/Punk/Metal angle. I kind of dig it, considering how morbid most classic country songs are it makes sense to me.

That’s a great poster. I picked up the shirt when I saw him in Jersey a few months back.

Those are niiiice, I especially like the Billy Joe Shaver one. Now I’ve gotta save up a lot of money to buy all this art that I want.
